About The Position

The Director of West Side Youth is a key leader at Redeemer West Side, providing vision, leadership, and discipleship opportunities for middle-school and high-school youth, as well as support and partnership for parents. Working alongside the Senior Director of Family Ministry and the broader pastoral team, the Director provides pastoral care and helps shape a ministry culture that is thoughtful, welcoming, and deeply rooted in the life of the church. West Side Youth is uniquely designed for the rhythms of center-city life, serving as a dynamic and engaging community where youth from multiple churches can build meaningful relationships, encounter the Gospel, and experience a strong sense of belonging.

Requirements

  • Aligned with the core theological principles of Redeemer West Side and the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), including the Westminster Confession.
  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • Master's Degree in ministry, theology, or a related field.
  • Passion for and 3-5+ years of experience leading ministries for youth, children, and families.
  • Energetic, fun, outgoing, and able to draw youth.
  • Strong gathering ability to take the initiative to recruit volunteers.
  • Previous experience building systems and setting programming.
  • Wisdom and discernment to advise on complex family dynamics and issues.
  • Able to navigate and affirm a city-positive approach to ministry in New York City.
  • Must be a dependable team player and self-starter.
  • Engaging, encouraging, experienced, and wise in individual pastoral responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to navigate interpersonal relationships.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to work within the unique rhythms of ministry life, including evenings, weekends, and nontraditional hours common to serving youth and families in New York City.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and interface with other ministries and congregations.
  • Agreement with Redeemer West Side staff policies, including the intellectual property policy.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and own the vision for discipleship of youth through young adulthood under the direction of the Sr Director of Family Ministry.
  • Active leadership of WS Youth, cultivating a vibrant, growing, and spiritually grounded youth ministry in Manhattan.
  • Develop programming, curriculum, and discipleship opportunities that are Gospel-centered, joyful, and outward-facing.
  • Foster a welcoming and engaging community where youth are known, valued, and cared for, especially those on the margins.
  • Recruit, train, galvanize, and retain volunteers to serve effectively and relationally.
  • Teach regularly and disciple youth through authentic, Christ-centered relationships.
  • Work alongside the Youth Ministry Manager(s) to assist in planning and leading events and service opportunities.
  • Build meaningful connections with volunteers, youth, and families both within and beyond Redeemer.
  • Build relationships with other youth leaders within the community and network.
  • Develop and implement ministry policies, procedures, and systems that support healthy, safe, and effective ministry operations.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the unique pressures, pace, and cultural realities of growing up in New York City, with the ability to relate to and thoughtfully disciple NYC teens in the midst of their everyday lives.
  • Partner closely with the Senior Director of Family Ministries to support and equip families of middle and high school youth.
  • Encourage and equip parents as they help their youth follow Jesus amid the unique pressures of adolescence and city life.
  • Provide pastoral support, guidance, and care to volunteers, parents and families.
  • Recruit, train, care for, and lead volunteers, fostering a healthy and engaged volunteer culture that supports the vision and mission of the ministry.
  • Lead our entire congregation in a vision to fulfill their baptismal vows to support parents in the Christian nurture of their teen children.
  • Care, counseling, and discipleship, with special emphasis on volunteers, youth and families.
  • Outreach and evangelism to the broader neighborhood, welcoming youth and others who have questions about Christianity.
  • Provide healthy, Christ-centered leadership to the West Side Youth staff team by cultivating a culture of collaboration, growth, encouragement, and excellence.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop WS Youth staff and interns, helping them grow both professionally and spiritually.
  • Ability to effectively manage and communicate across multiple constituencies, including youth, parents, volunteers, staff, and church leadership.
  • Foster a healthy team culture marked by trust, communication, creativity, and shared mission.
  • Equip staff members to lead effectively within their individual areas of responsibility while working collaboratively as a unified ministry team.
  • Provide regular coaching, encouragement, feedback, theological guidance, and accountability to help staff thrive and succeed in their roles.
  • Identify opportunities for leadership development and help raise up future ministry leaders within the church.
  • Support staff in creating sustainable ministry rhythms that promote long-term health and effectiveness.
  • Oversee and manage the West Side Youth budget, ensuring responsible stewardship and alignment with ministry priorities and goals.
  • Consistent prayer, individually and as staff.
  • Actively participate in staff gatherings.
