About The Position

Under the supervision of the Director of Catechesis and Evangelization, the Coordinator of Young Adults Ministry and small faith groups will evangelize and minister to the parish and local young adult community. through a multifaceted effort of accompaniment, preaching the kerygma and forming disciples in prayer, worship, and knowledge. The Coordinator of Young Adults will seek to integrate relationships between ministries, age, and social demographics in order to build a united Church community which reflects Christ Love to the world.

Requirements

  • Minimal exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
  • Creating and seeing through a catechetical calendar for growth in evangelization for Young Adults.
  • Ability to effectively manage group dynamics as well as interpersonal relationships with young adults of varying backgrounds and interests.

  • The Diocese, Pastors, Priests, Principals, Business Managers, and employees.
  • Parishioners, diocese vendors, local, state, and federal agency representatives, and auditors.
  • This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding needs of the Diocese, tight deadlines and moderate workloads.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends with possible occasional overnight stays.
  • Ability to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time.
  • Able to access and maintain centralized departmental files. Involves extending arms and reaching files stored in multiple levels on shelves, climbing up a stepladder to access files.
  • Ability to accept work interruptions while remaining focused on duties.
  • Data entry via computer keyboard requires repetitive and frequent hand and wrist movements.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.
  • Infrequent travel, by car, may be required to Diocese Parishes and/or schools.
  • Active participation in leadership roles in high school youth ministry and/or college campus ministry programs, and at least 60 hours of college credit
  • Possess a demonstrated basic knowledge of the doctrines of the Catholic faith, with specific training in theology and ministry preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church, including an in-depth familiarity with its doctrine, structure, functions, sacraments, rites, and liturgies.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Evangelization and Catechesis (and the church documents related to these), spiritual development, and small group discipleship practices.
  • Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices.
  • Basic proficiency with desktop publishing software (Canva, MS Publisher, Adobe Photoshop, ProPresenter), website updating, and database software (Parish Soft) required.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate
  • Demonstrated history of good judgement.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility.
  • Ability to use various computer software programs; strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Word and Excel.
  • Ability to use various office machines (copier, fax, phones, calculator, scanner, etc.) or ability to learn.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow directives from Pastor in a timely manner.
  • Ability to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with people from a diverse variety of audiences.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally, a candidate would hold a bachelor’s degree in education, catechesis, or theology, with 1-3 years’ experience or active participation as a leader in their own high school and/or college campus ministry programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develops year-round engaging evangelical and catechetical events for young adults including small faith communities, Bible studies, conferences, service projects, pilgrimages, and Diocesan events.
  • Collaborates with the Coordinator of Adult Evangelization with catechesis and evangelization efforts in parish wide small faith communities, RCIA, Confirmation preparation, marriage preparation and other cross-over ministries.
  • Recruits and trains volunteers who develop leadership and evangelization skills and can accompany others in becoming disciples of Christ and active, faith-filled Catholics.
  • Collaborates with the Catechesis and Evangelization team for the development and implementation of a vision for the department, yearly and monthly planning, use of space, and other events.
  • Helps to evangelize members of the parish and local community through print and social media.
  • Ensures necessary administrative requirements are followed, including but not limited to safe environment, activity reporting and analysis, and budget management.
  • Collaborates with young adult ministries in other local Catholic parishes and churches to implement effective evangelization tools and create disciples for Christ.
