About The Position

The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for developing a comprehensive youth ministry program to guide all High school students in the parish’s geographic bounds through the process of evangelization and catechesis. In collaboration with the Pastor, and the Director of Catechesis and Evangelization Department, this person shares the responsibility spread the Gospel as a “Spirit-filled evangelizer… fearlessly open to the working of the Holy Spirit.” (Evangelii Gaudium, 259) The Director of Youth Ministry also collaborates with parish staff and leadership to ensure all youth programming aligns with the mission, values, and sacramental life of the Catholic Church.

Requirements

  • Practicing Catholic, faithful to the Magisterium and in good standing with the Catholic Church.
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology or related field
  • Minimum three years of experience in ministry
  • CPR/AED and Stop the Bleed Training
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites and liturgies
  • Knowledge of the application of the Catechumenal model (OCIA) model as the central method of teaching the Catholic faith
  • Skilled at strategic planning
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, facilitation, research and process skills.
  • Ability to coordinate, motivate, and support volunteers
  • Ability to work with children to ensure their safety and development applying sound and effective policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate
  • Demonstrated history of good judgement.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility.
  • Ability to use various computer software programs; strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially in Word and Excel.
  • Ability to use various office machines (copier, fax, phones, calculator, scanner, etc.) or ability to learn.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow directives from Pastor in a timely manner.
  • Ability to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well with people from a diverse variety of audiences.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.

  • Some travel is required for ongoing Diocesan training and for staff development.
  • Travel for youth retreats may also be required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead parish retreats, mission trips, and large-scale youth events.
  • Manage all logistics related to these experiences, including planning, budgeting, communication, scheduling, and content development.
  • Ensure all activities provide meaningful opportunities for faith growth, service, and community building.
  • Developing cutting-edge curriculum, balancing relatability and depth,
  • Engaging the middle & high school students through immersive, lively games,
  • Training the Core Team in evangelization and discipleship,
  • Intentionally crafting small group time around accompaniment and the continual call to conversion,
  • Connecting with the parish at-large through promotion and various events,
  • Collaborate with volunteers to implement the weekly programming nights and middle school events, communicating about food, setup, small group expectations, and any other details as needed.
  • Address any questions or concerns raised by parents of Middle School and High Ministries students.
  • Oversee and administer the parish Confirmation program, ensuring a structured, accountable, and spiritually meaningful formation process.
  • Research, select, and implement an appropriate Confirmation curriculum in collaboration with parish leadership.
  • Manage all administrative responsibilities related to Confirmation, including registration, documentation, sacramental records, and communication with families.
  • Develop and coordinate monthly lesson plans, speaker schedules, and session materials.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteer catechists for the Confirmation program.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead Confirmation retreats and related sacramental preparation events.
  • Develop strong catechetical content and adapt to the needs of the specific students in the program.
  • Work alongside the Faith Formation department to bring about deepening conversion for the entire family through unified, strategic ministry offerings.
  • Participate in weekly department meetings and daily check-ins, making decisions and reporting on various accountabilities as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the department to put on various events and programs for the entire family.
  • Plan and coordinate young adult gatherings, Bible studies, service opportunities, and social events that foster discipleship and connection.
  • Collaborate with parish leadership to integrate young adults into the broader mission and ministries of the parish.
  • Recruit and support young adult leaders and volunteers to assist in building a sustainable and welcoming ministry community.
  • Any other responsibilities as given by the Director of Faith Formation/Pastor.
