About The Position

Umpqua Community College is seeking an energetic and organized leader to direct its Upward Bound and Educational Talent Search programs. This role involves helping Douglas County students prepare for college, careers, and life after high school. The Director will lead programs serving 665 students across local middle and high schools, collaborating with staff, educators, school partners, and community organizations. This position offers an opportunity to combine leadership, youth development, and education in a role that makes a significant difference. This is a grant-funded, limited-duration position through August 31, 2031, with continued employment subject to grant funding and College needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, behavioral and/or social science or related field required.
  • Two years of successful supervision, fiscal, and program management experience required.
  • Fiscal and tracking systems management experience required.
  • Working knowledge and use of technology required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with at least five years of licensed driving experience.
  • Maintain a clean driving record.
  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Two years of college-level or high school level advising, counseling, or teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience working with TS eligible students or programs preferred.
  • Proven experience helping youth succeed strongly preferred.
  • Successful experience designing, managing, and implementing programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated grant writing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfilling the UB/ETS missions and objectives as described in each grant.
  • Developing, directing, and evaluating the UB/ETS projects according to federal regulations and grant award requirements.
  • Carrying out all UCC administrative policies pertaining to the position.
  • Representing the programs for UCC, local schools, public media, community organizations, and other colleges.
  • Supervising student identification, eligibility verification, selection, assessment of progress, and tracking processes.
  • Recruiting and recommending qualified ETS and UB personnel for hiring, training staff as needed, and evaluating for retention or dismissal.
  • Providing supervision for all project staff, including school placement and staff schedules.
  • Developing creative programming, including a six-week long UB Summer Academy and academic year workshops and curriculum, to encourage low-income, first-generation college students to pursue higher education.
  • Recruiting, developing activities, and being the primary advisor for ETS middle school students.
  • Developing an effective tutoring program for both grants.
  • Maintaining close relationships with middle and high school principals and counselors, college advisors, Early College staff, TRIO Student Support Services Director, community agencies, and other colleges to ensure enhanced services are available to all participants.
  • Supervising facility and equipment use, including project inventories.
  • Establishing, maintaining, and monitoring official project records systems and ensuring all staff members maintain required student tracking records.
  • Running monthly contact reports to ensure all services are being met.
  • Coordinating all academic advising and overseeing training of staff on advising for college processes and programs of study.
  • Scheduling ongoing team meetings to assess individual student progress and assure that student Learning Assistance Plans are current.
  • Planning campus visits, cultural events, retreats, summer camp, and an End-of-Year trip.
  • Regularly participating in UCC committees.
  • Teaching workshops and classes as needed.
  • Serving as a trip chaperone, as needed.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Scheduling small and large group meetings.
  • Creating and preparing handouts and recruitment materials.
  • Staying current with information that pertains to academics, career, and financial aid areas.
  • Determining best practices to assist underrepresented youth in college and career exploration.
  • Tutoring participants in academic subjects.
  • Meeting with parents, teachers, and/or counselors to discuss participant issues.
  • Utilizing school student record systems.
  • Staying current with information that pertains to academic, career, and financial aid areas, as well as how to service underprivileged youth.
