As a Director of Underwriting, you’ll lead underwriting strategy, execution, and team performance to drive profitability and growth. You’ll partner cross‑functionally to ensure strong risk selection, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of homeowners P&C underwriting experience
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing performance and setting team goals
  • Experience working directly for an insurance carrier
  • Strong knowledge of Florida insurance laws and regulatory requirements
  • Proven analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Effective leadership with the ability to motivate and develop teams
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time‑management skills
  • Clear communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Alignment with Slide’s Core Values

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement underwriting strategies to support profitability and market competitiveness
  • Oversee underwriting processes to ensure sound risk assessment and adherence to company and regulatory standards
  • Partner with Strategic Planning to implement underwriting and product changes within systems
  • Monitor underwriting performance, including KPIs, profitability, and portfolio results
  • Provide insights and strategic recommendations to leadership
  • Collaborate across departments to align underwriting with broader business goals
  • Lead, coach, and develop underwriting team members, driving performance and engagement
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence
  • Provide regular feedback and support professional growth opportunities
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting quality and operational efficiency through data analysis
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements, legislation, and industry trends
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
