Insomnia Cookies•New York, NY

About The Position

Insomnia Cookies is seeking a hands-on treasury and tax leader to own liquidity forecasting, banking infrastructure, lender relationships, and tax compliance as the company grows its bakery footprint. Treasury is the day-one priority, including building and maintaining a driver-based 13-week cash-flow forecast, managing cash and receipts across more than 350 bakeries, supporting debt and capital-structure activities, and improving banking operations and controls. The role will also build and lead a scalable tax function covering partnership, income, sales and use, personal property, and other business taxes across the company’s U.S., Canadian, and UK operations. The Director partners daily with the CFO, Controller, FP&A, Operations, Growth, and external advisors. This is a visible, player-coach leadership position that combines designing processes with executing them, and requires communicating financial insights to executives, a board, and lenders. The position is onsite, with work-from-home Fridays.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least 10 years of progressive treasury and tax experience.
  • Experience building and owning a 13-week cash-flow forecast in a lender-reported environment, including covenant compliance, credit-agreement mechanics, and lender diligence.
  • Hands-on partnership tax experience, including Form 1065, composite returns, and K-1s.
  • Multi-state sales and use tax experience at scale.
  • Advanced Excel modeling skills.
  • Ability to design processes and execute them, and to communicate the story behind financial results to a CFO, board, or bank.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving environment with tight timelines, iteration, and a results-driven mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA and/or CTP; an MBA is a plus.
  • Experience combining public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) with industry leadership.
  • Experience in multi-unit restaurants, retail, or consumer businesses.
  • Familiarity with Avalara or Vertex.
  • Exposure to Canadian GST/HST or UK VAT.
  • Experience in a sponsor- or investor-backed company and with financing or refinancing transactions.
  • Experience with Workday ERP and treasury or banking platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain a driver-based 13-week cash-flow forecast, gather and validate cash inputs, and deliver weekly actual-versus-forecast variance analysis.
  • Manage daily cash positioning and liquidity across the bakery footprint, including deposit concentration, sweeps, minimum-liquidity targets, and intercompany funding.
  • Ensure card-processor, delivery, e-commerce, gifting, and catering settlements are received and reconciled; resolve breaks and benchmark or negotiate processing fees.
  • Manage lender relationships, prepare reporting packages and covenant calculations, oversee debt draws and repayments, and model covenant headroom under different scenarios.
  • Support financing initiatives, interest-rate risk and hedging strategy, and debt-capacity analysis in partnership with the CFO.
  • Administer banking operations, including account openings and closures, KYC documentation, signatories, online-banking access, and wire and ACH execution.
  • Operate payment-fraud controls, including positive pay, ACH blocks, and callback protocols.
  • Review bank fees and account structures and conduct banking RFPs when appropriate.
  • Maintain cash-management and investment policies and drive treasury automation through ERP and banking platforms.
  • Manage CAD and GBP cash needs for Canadian and UK bakeries.
  • Own partnership tax compliance, including Form 1065, K-1s, composite returns, nonresident withholding, PTET elections, and partner tax distributions.
  • Manage federal, state, and local income and franchise taxes, including apportionment, nexus monitoring, and city-level business taxes.
  • Manage sales and use tax returns and registrations across jurisdictions, assess taxability of delivery fees, gift cards, and catering, address marketplace-facilitator rules, and support audit defense.
  • File personal property tax returns and renditions for bakery equipment and leasehold improvements, and pursue assessment appeals when appropriate.
  • Manage unclaimed property and escheat, 1099 compliance, business-license renewals, and a master tax calendar.
  • Direct outside tax advisors; manage tax notices and audits; support tax accruals during monthly close; and advise on entity structure and new-market expansion.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, bonus, benefits, and equity.
  • Free cookies and branded swag.
  • Fun, entrepreneurial, cookie-filled culture.
