We are looking for a Director, Total Rewards to lead compensation and benefits strategy and execution across RA Capital Management (RACM) and our incubator, RAven. This is a high-impact, dual-focused role that is both strategic and hands-on, sitting at the intersection of people strategy and business performance. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, you will design and deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards program that is competitive, equitable, and aligned with our business goals. You will work closely with senior HR and business leaders across both organizations and manage a direct report.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, or total rewards, with demonstrated experience in a senior or lead role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into clear recommendations.
  • Experience managing benefits programs and compensation cycles end-to-end.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulatory requirements governing compensation and benefits.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; comfortable partnering with C-suite leaders.
  • Strong Excel modeling skills
  • Experience with Google Suite and Rippling
  • Ability to thrive in a small, dynamic team environment that values collaboration, curiosity, and a good sense of humor.

  • Must be based in the Greater Boston area

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a global Total Rewards strategy that supports RACM and RAven’s business objectives and promotes a competitive, equitable compensation and benefits framework.
  • Serve as the firm's subject matter expert on compensation and benefits trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
  • Design, implement, and administer competitive, performance-driven compensation programs that attract and retain top talent.
  • Partner with the CPO, HRBP, and VP HR & Operations to conduct job evaluations and market pricing, ensuring appropriate compensation levels and pay equity across the organization.
  • Manage mid-year and year-end compensation cycles in coordination with the CPO, CFO, and HRBP.
  • Participate in compensation and benefits surveys, compiling and submitting all required company data.
  • Oversee payroll administration, ensuring accuracy in coordination with the CFO.
  • Lead the design, management, and communication of benefits programs — including health, wellness, leave, and recognition — ensuring alignment with best practices and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Own the annual benefits renewal process, including vendor evaluation and selection, balancing cost and employee value.
  • Manage the full open enrollment cycle, from planning and communications through systems configuration, launch, and post-enrollment activities.
  • Oversee all leave of absence programs and serve as a go-to resource for employee benefits questions.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal requirements, including required notices, non-discrimination testing, and periodic plan audits.
  • Partner with the COBRA Administrator to ensure accurate and timely notifications for new hires and departing employees.
  • Partner with senior leaders to develop and implement employee recognition and rewards programs that drive engagement and reinforce a high-performance culture.
  • Lead the annual employee engagement survey, synthesizing results to inform program strategy and improvements.
  • Build and maintain dashboards to track compensation, benefits, and engagement metrics — identifying trends and delivering actionable insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Manage and mentor 1–2 direct reports, fostering their professional growth and building capability within the HR team.
  • Collaborate with the CPO, CFO, VP HR & Operations at RAven, to ensure Total Rewards programs are integrated into the firm's broader people strategy.
