About The Position

The Director of the Center for Family Business reports to the Dean of the College of Business and Economics. The Director of the Center for Family Business is responsible for the overall direction, strategy, ongoing programs & operations, marketing, financial performance, and delivery of services for the Center for Family Business. The Director of the Center for Family Business is guided by the Center’s Advisory Board, which consists of the sponsoring Partners, Center members and College leadership. The Director of the Center for Family Business also works collaboratively with the Rick Muth Endowed Family Chair in Family Business to make available those resources of teaching and research to Center members. THE CENTER: Vision: The Center for Family Business is to be recognized as the premier educational resource to family businesses within Southern California. Mission: Support family-owned businesses by providing information and interaction uniquely tailored to the needs and concerns of family-owned enterprises. Values: The Council’s core values include a commitment to (1) the wellbeing of family firms and their substantial impact upon the economy; (2) the importance of providing helpful resources to family businesses’ transition to future generations; and (3) excellence as the standard for disseminating relevant information to family firms.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of knowledge and experience in family business or related areas of management.
  • Facilitation, presentation skills, and demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Skills needed to establish the vision for the Center and the strategies to match.
  • Proven ability in fund-raising, budgeting, and accountability.
  • Experience with event planning and organizing programming.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the Council’s activities.
  • Develop a strategy consistent with constituents’ needs.
  • Create an annual program schedule consisting of monthly workshops, Affinity Groups (peer-discussion groups), and University events.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in program content, structure, and delivery; screen, coach, and advise program presenters on content and delivery options.
  • Manage all aspects of membership promotion; oversee production of all marketing, advertising, and Public Relations materials, including the Council’s website.
  • Maintain a wide variety of relationships with key constituents, including resource providers, family-owned businesses, the press, and other resources; build and maintain relationships with the other Centers of Excellence within the college.
  • Develop the talent of FBC staff to serve the needs of Council membership and sponsoring Partners.
  • Develop and assure financial performance in line with the Center’s budget as approved by the Advisory Board and the Dean.
  • Perform fund-raising activities to help support the Center for Family Business.
  • Other duties as assigned.
