About The Position

The position of Director of Teaching and Learning P-12 is to provide leadership, direction and oversight of identified categorial programs in alignment with and supportive of the District’s Strategic Plan. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field
  • Master's degree in education or related field
  • Principal experience required
  • Previous Title 1 teaching experience
  • Minimum of three years of building or district leadership as a certificated administrator
  • Principal or Program Administrator certificate from the state of Washington
  • Washington state driver’s license
  • Possesses knowledge of the requirements of the Washington School Improvement Framework and school Title I plans.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the School Improvement process, including development of School Improvement Plans.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of systematic approaches to support student achievement.
  • Possesses program knowledge of state and federal programs including Learning Assistance Program (LAP), Every Student Succeeds Act and others.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of effective human resource management, including supervision and evaluation of certificated and classified staff.
  • Possesses knowledge of the Teacher Principal Evaluation Program and the Danielson Framework.
  • Possesses the ability to work collaboratively with parents, school and district staff to support the needs of students as delineated in program scope
  • Demonstrates an ability to utilize various analytical techniques to determine program needs and outcomes
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills required to work with a community rich in diversity
  • Possesses the ability to plan and implement programs or initiatives
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively manage budgets and resources
  • Possesses skills that lead to effective work within a team environment, including interdependency and focus on shared goals and vision

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and provides leadership for categorical programs, including Title I, LAP, Advanced Learning, MLL and other state and federally funded programs.
  • Leads, plans, and organizes the development and implementation of coordinated curriculum and instructional practices for the Advanced Learning program.
  • Ensures compliance, alignment, and implementation of program requirements in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Assist as required with school improvement plans.
  • Provides leadership and supervision of identified teaching and learning department staff under their supervision.
  • Assigns, supervises, and evaluates program staff under their supervision, in collaboration with other department and school leaders.
  • Recommends staffing allocations for programs within area of responsibilities in alignment with key priorities and initiatives.
  • Works with students, parents, teachers and service providers, advisory groups, and others in the community to discuss program recommendations and improvements.
  • Engages students, parents, staff, and community as required for the duties of the position.
  • Identifies and provides for the professional development of certificated staff.
  • Assists in the development and prioritization of program planning required to support the District’s Strategic Plan and other identified areas.
  • Influences a culture conducive to continuous improvement for students and staff; fosters, recognizes, and supports ethnic, cultural, gender, economic and human diversity throughout the community, while striving to provide fair and equitable treatment and consideration for all.
  • Addresses systemic barriers to success for students from racially diverse backgrounds. Implementing strategies to foster a sense of belonging and inclusion among all students.
  • May draft administrative procedures or regulations to implement requirements of adopted school board policies.
  • Assists in the interpretation and execution of the policies, administrative procedures, and regulations pertaining to the scope of the position.
  • Collaborates with district personnel, state agency personnel and peers in other districts for the purpose of identifying effective services and/or programs.
  • Coordinates program components for the purpose of delivering services.
  • Designs program reviews and student assessments for the purpose of evaluating educational processes and providing feedback to administration for appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Monitors assigned activities and/or program compliance including financial, legal, and administrative requirements each of the assigned programs.
  • Prepares and presents public reports and presentations regarding programs, services and responsibilities to the Board of Directors, staff and others, including providing reports for OSPI and other agencies as required.
  • Collaborates with school administrators for the purpose of supporting the learning needs of students within the context of the program responsibilities of the position.
  • Fulfills grant requirements for community, state and federal grants, including submission of required documents and compliance of reporting requirements.
  • Oversees program budgets as required for the program responsibilities of the position.
  • May be required to work irregular hours, including some evening requirements or an occasional weekend requirement.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
