This role directs, supervises, delegates, and evaluates nursing care provided to patients. The Director is responsible for hiring, orienting, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, and recommending termination of assigned staff with HR assistance. This position requires effective communication with physicians, collaboration in patient care planning, and cost-conscious use of supplies and equipment. The Director assumes responsibility for unit fiscal management, including preparing departmental budgets for capital, FTE, and expenses. They work with Quality to ensure compliance with DOH and/or DNV regulations, ensuring quality patient care and acting on identified problems. Collaboration with other departments enhances the Employee Experience, and the Director works with Guest Relations and Quality to resolve patient grievances. The role involves staying apprised of strategic goals, establishing short and long-term goals for the Surgery Department, and attending necessary meetings. This position serves as a liaison between nursing, patients, families, physicians, and the community, promoting a cooperative team environment. The Director acts as a clinical and managerial resource, coaching and mentoring staff, and participating in the orientation of new staff and students. Professional development and continuing education are key, including identifying staff development and recredentialing needs and coordinating programs. Routine inspections of facilities ensure policy and procedure adherence. The Director coordinates emergency measures for codes and disasters, conducts unit meetings, and performs other assigned duties.
