About The Position
Plus One, part of the Optum Workplace Well-being portfolio, is seeking a full-time Director of Sports and Recreation for a fitness center at a high-profile company in Menlo Park, California. The role oversees member service and engagement, exercise-floor support, bouldering wall staff and programs, and recreation and sports leagues and events. The Director helps promote a safe, welcoming fitness environment and supports member satisfaction, participation, retention, and revenue.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field and/or a current nationally recognized rock climbing certification such as PCIA or AMGA.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Current knowledge of industry standards for rock wall safety, preventative maintenance, and programming.
- Basic understanding of exercise principles and cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility programming.
- Industry knowledge and customer-service skills to network, engage, and interact with clients, guests, and participants.
- Competence with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Responsibilities
- Respond to member and guest suggestions, concerns, and complaints promptly and professionally, providing high-quality customer service and connecting people with appropriate assistance when needed.
- Engage members on the fitness floor and support enrollment, utilization, retention, revenue, and the overall customer experience.
- Observe exercise activity and provide interpersonal feedback on corrective measures, exercise technique, range of motion, and breathing.
- Offer alternative movements to accommodate different fitness levels and support client results.
- Hire, onboard, and manage bouldering wall team members and programs to help ensure member safety.
- Organize and implement recreation and sports leagues and tournaments, and manage field reservations and communications.
- Collaborate with local community leagues to support member satisfaction.
- Activate emergency action plans and administer first aid as needed.
