About The Position

Apple Maps is seeking a Director of Quality, Insights, and Delivery to optimize and improve Maps experiences across the Apple ecosystem. The role leads end-to-end quality and insights across Maps software platforms, defining and executing strategies that affect hundreds of millions of daily active users. The director manages and grows organizations of engineering managers, performance architects, software engineers, quality engineers, deployment engineers, and automation engineers. Working closely with Product Design, Core Software Engineering, Systems Architecture, and Hardware teams, this leader champions engineering excellence, establishes automated testing pipelines, and leads investigations into system bottlenecks, quality and performance measurements, automation fidelity, and transaction correctness. The role also develops cross-team approaches to automated testing across platforms and devices and oversees routine packaging of Maps and related SDKs for iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. The director is additionally responsible for a monetization-centric quality roadmap and scalable testing and metrics frameworks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of professional software engineering and quality assurance experience.
  • 6+ years of engineering leadership as a Director, including direct experience managing managers (second-line management or above) in consumer software and/or mobile platform ecosystems.
  • Proven experience leading, scaling, and mentoring multi-tiered engineering teams, including managers and senior technical leads, in high-growth consumer-facing software environments.
  • Deep expertise in modern operating systems, application runtimes, software testing methodologies, CI/CD infrastructure, and performance measurement frameworks.
  • Strong consumer focus on user experience, system responsiveness, battery and energy efficiency, latency reduction, and reliability under real-world consumer workloads.
  • Demonstrated success partnering across executive leadership, product management, design, and software release management to establish quality gates and align engineering priorities.
  • Experience building automated telemetry, real-world monitoring, and analytics platforms to identify regressions and guide performance optimizations before customer release.
  • Experience designing instrumentation and automated systems that handle large volumes of daily transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience driving quality and performance engineering for consumer products operating at massive scale, including millions of active users, while incorporating privacy, security, and quality measures throughout the process.
  • Solid foundation in performance metrics such as latency, memory usage, CPU/GPU profiling, concurrency, battery life, thermals, and network throughput.
  • Track record of driving continuous automated testing and quality gates within modern Agile/DevOps CI/CD delivery pipelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Direct experience with native operating systems such as iOS and macOS, embedded devices, and/or real-time media or graphics runtimes, with trust and safety as pillars for excellence.
  • Familiarity with modern test infrastructure using distributed test execution, device farms, or AI/ML-driven automated regression detection and failure analysis.
  • Expertise architecting scalable observability pipelines, automated crash reporting, and real-time field performance diagnostics.
  • Demonstrated ability to build highly collaborative and inclusive engineering cultures while driving rigorous engineering accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end quality and insights across Maps software platforms.
  • Define and execute strategies and solutions that improve Maps experiences for users across the Apple ecosystem.
  • Manage, grow, and mentor a high-performing organization of engineering managers and technical teams, including performance, software, quality, deployment, and automation engineers.
  • Partner with Product Design, Core Software Engineering, Systems Architecture, and Hardware teams to champion engineering excellence.
  • Establish advanced automated testing pipelines and quality gates.
  • Lead deep-dive investigations into system bottlenecks, quality and performance measurements, automation fidelity, and transaction correctness.
  • Create and present cross-team solutions for automated testing spanning multiple platforms and devices.
  • Oversee routine packaging of Maps and related SDKs across iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS.
  • Create a monetization-centric quality roadmap and deliver scalable testing and metrics frameworks.
