About The Position

Apple Maps is seeking a Director of Quality, Insights, and Delivery to optimize and improve Maps experiences across Apple devices. The role leads end-to-end quality and insights across Maps software platforms, defining and executing strategies that affect hundreds of millions of daily active users. The director manages and grows organizations of engineering managers, performance architects, software engineers, quality engineers, deployment engineers, and automation engineers. The director partners with Product Design, Core Software Engineering, Systems Architecture, and Hardware teams to advance engineering excellence; establish automated testing pipelines; and investigate system bottlenecks, quality and performance measurements, automation fidelity, and transaction correctness. The role develops and presents cross-team solutions for automated testing across platforms and devices. The team also routinely packages Maps and related SDKs for iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS. The director is responsible for creating a monetization-centric quality roadmap and delivering scalable testing and metrics frameworks. The ideal candidate has led large, distributed engineering organizations at top-tier consumer technology companies and brings an analytical, empathetic, and collaborative leadership approach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 12 or more years of professional software engineering and quality assurance experience.
  • At least 6 years of engineering leadership as a Director, including direct management of managers (second-line management or above) in consumer software and/or mobile platform ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated experience driving quality and performance engineering initiatives for consumer products at massive scale, serving millions of active users.
  • Experience building privacy, security, and quality measures into every step of the process.
  • Solid foundation in performance metrics, including latency, memory usage, CPU/GPU profiling, concurrency, battery life, thermals, and network throughput.
  • Track record of driving continuous automated testing and quality gates integrated into modern Agile/DevOps CI/CD delivery pipelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Direct experience with native operating systems such as iOS or macOS, embedded devices, and/or real-time media or graphics runtimes, with trust and safety as pillars for excellence.
  • Familiarity with modern test infrastructure using distributed test execution, device farms, or AI/ML-driven automated regression detection and failure analysis.
  • Expertise architecting scalable observability pipelines, automated crash reporting, and real-time field performance diagnostics.
  • Demonstrated ability to build highly collaborative and inclusive engineering cultures while driving rigorous engineering accountability.
