About The Position

We are a dual-use technology company in the San Francisco Bay Area with a ground-breaking platform for predicting, detecting, and preventing harmful pathogen exposures in indoor environments. Developed with National Institutes of Health support, our award-winning technology integrates hardware, software, and consumables and is deployed across military and civilian building portfolios. About the Position We're looking for a Director of Engineering to drive hardware development of an airborne pathogen sensor built on PCR and microfluidics technology. You'll lead outsourced design and manufacturing partners from concept through production, which demands strong cross-functional and cross-organizational management.

Requirements

  • Master's in Mechanical Engineering (required)
  • Electrical engineering depth in electromechanical and optical systems
  • Optics engineering, ideally with PCR optics experience
  • Strong materials/chemistry foundation, including reagent management
  • Aerosol science fundamentals (particle dynamics and measurement)
  • Proven project management of multi-discipline programs with outsourced design
  • Experience running multi-million-dollar programs in regulated industries, including validation, change control, and PLM systems
  • Software Engineering

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex projects from concept to manufacturing using a phase-gate approach across mechanical, electrical, firmware, optics, and microfluidics
  • Program-manage product development through outsourced design and manufacturing partners, holding them to requirements, schedule, and budget
  • Maintain compliance with GMP and DoD requirements in a highly regulated environment
  • Define control system requirements, design specs, and validation and qualification testing
  • Own document and change management systems
  • Do hands-on work in prototype build, validation, and optimization
  • Own Engineering budgeting and procurement (contracts, purchasing)
