About The Position

SoftPro is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead their engineering and quality assurance efforts for their SaaS platform. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert with a proven track record in delivering enterprise software, particularly within the financial services sector. This role also requires strong mentorship, leadership, and change management skills. The position is based in Raleigh, NC, and operates on a hybrid model, requiring 2-3 days per week in the office. The Director of Software Engineering will report to the Chief Technology Officer.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Engineering required; Master's degree preferred. Work experience may be substituted.
5+ years of experience managing and mentoring multiple development and QA teams, preferably across time zones and cultures, with at least 20 team members.
10+ years of experience in developing software on the .NET platform, including Microsoft Azure technologies.
Demonstrated domain expertise, including the ability to develop business partnerships and influence priorities by identifying solutions aligned with current business objectives.
Demonstrated ability to stay current with industry and technology changes and share this knowledge with coworkers.
Knowledge and demonstrated application of professional software engineering practices throughout the entire software development lifecycle.
Experience in the financial services industry is a significant plus.
Strong track record of successful delivery to customers.
Strong track record of delivering non-functional requirements (performance, stability, application security) with the same zeal and care as functional requirements.
Ability to choose and implement appropriate strategies and methodologies for building and delivering high-quality software to customers.
Ability to use automated tests, analysis, and informed feedback loops to ensure quality and production readiness before release, the health of development and QA processes, and the success of production outcomes.
Experience with modern agile Software Development approaches and a focus on process excellence.
Demonstrated ability to incorporate metrics that lead to improved software security throughout the development lifecycle.
Hands-on experience with software architecture and modern web applications, including those built on microservices patterns.
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted or Agentic AI SDLC.
Experience managing budgets and projects.
Ability to communicate honestly and openly across teams, with peers, and with customers.
Experience in leading organizations through change and achieving successful outcomes.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships and relationships at all levels of the organization.
Advanced leadership skills with the ability to act even when there is no clear owner, inspire and motivate others, and be effective at influencing team members.

Responsibilities

Plan, guide, and direct all development, quality assurance (QA), and application security activities for the SaaS platform.
Serve as a thought and process leader and mentor for all team members.
Advocate for, implement, and measure the outcomes of an AI-assisted and/or Agentic AI SDLC.
Collaborate closely with Product teams to ensure functional and non-functional requirements are correctly prioritized and delivered on time and within budget.
Create opportunities for teams to reduce technical debt and increase code coverage and quality throughout the software lifecycle.
Hire, nurture, and retain strong technical talent across all teams.
Ensure all Software Development efforts adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
