About The Position

The Director of Social Services will manage and monitor daily program operations of a mental health shelter based on city, state, and federal regulatory requirements and DHS contractual requirements. This role involves planning, organizing, and overseeing all clinical services, providing supervisory oversight and training to staff, and ensuring collaboration among team members for comprehensive resident care. The Director will also be responsible for managing admissions, monitoring daily operations, developing therapeutic groups and activities, overseeing case management and referrals, and ensuring compliance with documentation and reporting standards.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in the human services field is required.
  • Three to five years of supervisory experience in a large shelter or residential facility that provides comprehensive social services, housing placement, and job skills training to the homeless, mentally ill, and chemically dependent populations.
  • A work schedule that includes some weekend and evening hours will be required.

  • Social Work degree preferred.
  • NYS Licensure (LMHC, LMSW, LCSW).
  • SIFI Certification preferred not required.
  • Knowledge and experience in NYC Dept. of Homeless Services contract requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, organizes, directs, and oversees the provision of all clinical services.
  • Provides supervisory oversight and training to the Senior Service Coordinators, Social Worker, Housing Specialists, and Program Nurses.
  • Ensures collaboration between staff around coordination of services/case management, barriers to services, and community-based referrals.
  • Meets weekly with the Program Nurse and Psychiatrist to coordinate psychiatric and medical care.
  • Reviews all admissions and intake screenings.
  • Monitors daily census reports.
  • Develops groups, workshops, and recreational activities to foster consumer self-sufficiency and wellness.
  • Monitors and oversees caseload assignments, group facilitation, housing and job placements, and referrals.
  • Monitors and oversees room/dorm visits/inspections to assess consumer hygiene and ADL skills.
  • Responsible for Incident Management, crisis intervention, and all related documentation.
  • Assists in overseeing and managing building evacuation during emergencies.
  • Monitors program effectiveness, compliance, and consumer outcomes.
  • Monitors the establishment and maintenance of linkages with community-based job skills training, education programs, mental health, primary health care, substance abuse service providers, and supportive housing providers.
  • Attends staff meetings, case conferences, training, and management meetings.
  • Acts as primary liaison for the Care Coordination team and other departments.
  • Monitors documentation for quality and timely completion; reviews and monitors the development of all Individual Living Plans.
  • Develops plans for follow-up with program graduates.
  • Provides direct services as needed and appropriate.
  • Complies with and enforces all SUS Employee Policies, Procedures, Protocols, SUS Corporate Compliance Policies, NYC - DHS and NYS Dept. of Social Services Rules, Regulations, and Statutes.
