Director of Shelter Operations
About The Position
The Director of Shelter Operations serves as a key leader within the Shelter Management Team, overseeing essential functions such as safety, food service, and lodging across all shelter and overflow locations. This position ensures effective staff supervision and scheduling to maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive shelter environment for all individuals seeking assistance. Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with people experiencing homelessness, veterans, people with substance use disorders, people with re-entry backgrounds, and/or other relevant social service populations.
- Strong communication skills

- A minimum of two years of experience in shelter operations, safety, and security is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily shelter operations, including food services, front desk, security, laundry, maintenance, transportation, and scheduling
- Support the Family Overflow Supervisor with scheduling, staffing, training, and overall management of the family overflow shelter
- Foster a respectful and supportive shelter environment by actively participating in resident engagement initiatives, including Shelter Solutions Committee meetings
- Lead, supervise, and support a diverse team of staff in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Collaborate with the Grievance Coordinator to address and resolve grievances, including reviewing bans and determining eligibility for return
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels through effective workforce planning, recruitment, scheduling, and accurate timekeeping practices
- Ensure Operations staff remain compliant with all required training in collaboration with the Facility Director and Human Resources
- Assist with budget development and oversee Operations-related expenditures, including supply purchasing and processing check requests
- Ensure Operations staff are properly trained in and effectively utilize the shelter data management system.
- Serve as the shelter's representative in engagements with stakeholders, encompassing local businesses, partners, and volunteer groups, both during onsite walkthroughs and events, as well as within the broader community
