About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Director of School Counseling (High School) is to support the development and implementation of a school counseling program based upon the identified needs of the students. The Director of School Counseling will provide leadership to ensure: implementation of the school counseling program at the school, integration of school counseling with the total educational curriculum of the school, and hiring of qualified, diverse school counselors. The Director of School Counseling will provide individual and group supervision to school counselors in practice and complete the evaluation process using aligned performance standards & evaluation criteria.

  • School counseling endorsement (School counselor preK-12)
  • Either an administrative endorsement (Administration and Supervision PreK-12) or a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited doctoral program.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a school counselor in a public school.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily activities of school counseling at Charlottesville High School and any assigned alternative high schools and programs.
  • Assists the School Principal in ensuring that the school's policies and procedures related to school counseling meet state, federal, and division requirements.
  • Supervises school counselors and assigned clerical staff in the day-to-day operation of the department.
  • Maintains high levels of effectiveness with Professional Learning Communities, whereby student data are analyzed, and teams collaborate for enhancing school improvement.
  • Provides leadership in the implementation of college and career readiness programs, student academic planning, and social-emotional development, including the development of curriculum and being the point of contact for related software.
  • Leads efforts to involve the home and family in the school counseling program, including providing workshops for parents and families to assist them in acquiring an understanding of students and techniques and strategies essential for academic and personal/social growth.
  • Participates in curriculum development/revision and serves on the school's instructional leadership team, which analyzes data about student achievement.
  • Coordinates student referrals with appropriate student services staff and community agencies.
  • Provides leadership in implementing MTSS that improves student learning and achievement outcomes.
  • Oversees the implementation of the 504 process from initial meetings to classroom communication.
  • Provides overall coordination of special activities/events involving the school counseling department of the assigned school, to include new student orientation programs, career fairs, financial aid workshops, curriculum fairs, and parenting workshops, etc.
  • Assists the School Principal with monitoring and evaluating the school counseling program to ensure effective utilization of staff and resources, and recommends revisions and improvements as needed.
  • Collect, analyze, and use data to develop, implement, and evaluate the school counseling program in collaboration with central office administration.
  • Provides consultation and in-service to give teachers and administrators in the school information, strategies, and approaches for maximizing the total development of students, including academic and social needs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and local school counseling standards.
  • Implements a comprehensive and efficient system for maintaining records of school counseling services and student records at the assigned school.
  • Maintain the Charlottesville High School counseling web page
  • Collaborate with the Pathways Adviser and other CCS and external personnel regarding scholarships, financial aid, and post-secondary planning
  • Performs duties as a School Counselor.
  • Proficiency with, or ability to learn, multiple applications including, but not limited to, PowerSchool, Schoolinks, Canvas, and Google.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
