About The Position

The Director of Safety and Compliance will be responsible for ensuring industry standards and compliance. This role involves developing and managing the company's safety program, ensuring adherence to all federal, state, local, and industry-specific regulations, and investigating incidents. The position also oversees worker's compensation, DOT compliance, and safety training programs.

Requirements

  • Must be decisive and able to recognize and support the organizations goals and priorities

Responsibilities

  • Develops the company’s formal safety program, including a formally written plan updated based on company needs and changing safety requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and industry-specific safety and environmental regulations.
  • Ensures conformity with all related labor, health and safety, and other applicable laws and group policies.
  • Investigates and analyzes incident reports, near misses, vehicle accidents, and complaints involving work-related injuries and illness.
  • Responsible for administration and management of worker compensation program, including all claims and compliance reporting.
  • Coordinates Fit for Duty examinations, drug and alcohol testing for post-accident/incident situations and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
  • Oversees, maintains, and updates all confidential workers compensation and DOT and OSHA medical records.
  • Ensures the company is in compliance with all applicable DOT regulations, including but not limited to: DOT Driver Files, Hours of Service, ELD compliance, random CDL drug testing, vehicle maintenance.
  • Works with managers and Personnel to facilitate complex return to work situations as well as employee accommodations.
  • Administers loss prevention programs and addresses problem areas for both workers’ compensation and general liability; monitors programs for compliance with existing and new laws; analyzes and reviews policies and programs and coordinates changes with executives.
  • Develops and refines recommended procedures and methods based on reports of incidents, accidents, near misses, and other data gathered from industry and agencies to improve safety and loss prevention.
  • Prepares, disseminates, and maintains memos, reports, and administrative controls of records related to safety and health programs.
  • Develops, administers, and maintains safety training program for all company positions; monitors employee completion of assigned training tasks.
  • Assists department heads and administrators in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
  • Implements and/or manages a company-wide preventative maintenance program for safety and environmental equipment.
  • Conducts building and grounds surveys on periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of safety program, using established goals.
  • Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving safety operations.
  • Develops and manages safety committees at corporate and branch levels.
  • Works with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, DOT, MSHA, EPA, and local fire departments when needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
