About The Position

Spring Footwear is seeking an experienced, hands-on retail leader to drive sales, profitability, and operational performance across approximately 15 Spring Step Shoes stores in multiple states. This opportunity is for someone who understands both the selling floor and the financial results- someone who can coach a Store Manager, diagnose an underperforming location, build stronger teams, and turn plans into measurable improvements. You will work closely with our VP of Retail and executive leadership, oversee our Retail Operations Manager and store leadership teams, and help shape the direction of the retail business. The role offers a path to broader responsibility for the retail business unit, based on performance and business needs.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of progressive retail leadership experience, including 5 years managing multiple stores.
  • Proven leadership of a geographically dispersed, multi-state store portfolio.
  • Footwear, apparel, accessories, fashion, or specialty retail experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for store or regional P&Ls, budgets, payroll, and operating expenses.
  • Measurable success improving profitability, growing sales, or turning around underperforming stores.
  • Strong recruiting, coaching, and leadership-development skills.
  • Experience leading through other managers while remaining effective in the field.
  • Confidence making business decisions with incomplete information and limited resources.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Excel and retail reporting systems.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 50%.

  • Experience with outlet retail, store openings and closures, and entrepreneurial businesses is particularly valuable.

Responsibilities

  • Drive store sales, same-store growth, and operating profitability.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and reviews of store P&Ls.
  • Manage payroll productivity, operating expenses, and performance against targets.
  • Build and execute turnaround plans for underperforming locations.
  • Recommend store openings, closures, relocations, and other portfolio decisions.
  • Lead and develop the Retail Operations Manager and store management teams.
  • Strengthen recruiting, onboarding, training, retention, and succession planning.
  • Build a reliable bench of Store Managers and Assistant Store Managers.
  • Set clear expectations, follow through on commitments, and address performance issues promptly.
  • Ensure staffing changes and operational concerns reach leadership quickly.
  • Spend meaningful time in stores, coaching teams and improving execution.
  • Establish consistent standards for selling, service, visual merchandising, inventory accuracy, and loss prevention.
  • Improve online order fulfillment and other omnichannel store activities.
  • Partner with merchandising and planning on assortments, replenishment, markdowns, and inventory productivity.
  • Use customer and field feedback to identify opportunities by location.
  • Maintain clear weekly and monthly reporting on sales, profitability, labor, staffing, inventory, and customer experience.
  • Translate results into specific actions, owners, and deadlines.
  • Bring recommendations and sound judgment to senior leadership.
