About The Position

The Director of Retail Operations builds, leads, and continually improves the retail operating engine that advances the mission of Purpose Brands 414. Through strategic leadership, operational excellence, financial stewardship, and people development, this role ensures every retail initiative operates with consistency, profitability, and purpose while creating environments and experiences where customers, donors, volunteers, and team members flourish. Reporting to the COO, this leader develops scalable systems, empowers high-performing leaders, drives operational performance, and prepares the organization for future regional expansion through redemptive marketplace initiatives. Purpose Brands 414 is seeking an experienced leader ready to demonstrate relationship, strategy, performance, and growth of its retail division. This role oversees multiple retail brands and locations, manages one of the organization's largest departments, and is accountable for significant operational and financial results. The Director of Retail Operations partners closely with the COO, CEO, and Executive Leadership Team to translate organizational vision into operational execution. Success in this role requires balancing strategic thinking with hands-on leadership, using data to drive decisions, building systems that scale, and developing leaders who strengthen both business performance and mission impact. Retail is one of the primary ways Purpose Brands 414 fulfills its mission of helping people know Jesus, inspire hope, restore dignity, and strengthen communities. Operational excellence serves as a catalyst for this mission.

Requirements

  • Active and growing relationship with Jesus.
  • Aligned with PB414’s mission to cultivate redemptive, marketplace-driven initiatives
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, Operations, Supply Chain, or related field, or equivalent leadership experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive retail leadership experience.
  • 3+ years leading multiple retail locations, districts, or large-format operations.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for significant operating budgets and financial performance.
  • Strong knowledge of retail analytics, KPIs, budgeting, forecasting, and operational reporting.
  • Proven success developing leaders, improving processes, and leading organizational change.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, emotional intelligence (EQ) and spiritual quotient (SQ).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with a passion for innovation.
  • Demonstrates spiritual maturity by leading with humility, purpose, and discernment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in thrift, resale, nonprofit, or mission-driven retail.
  • Experience in church ministry or marketplace ministry.
  • Experience opening new retail locations or supporting organizational growth.
  • Familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System).
  • Experience with Square for Retail or comparable retail management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Store and Operational Managers and department leaders through regular coaching, performance management, and accountability.
  • Build a healthy leadership pipeline by identifying and preparing future leaders for increased responsibility.
  • Foster a culture rooted in Purpose Brands 414's mission, values, and leadership expectations.
  • Partner with Human Resources to recruit, hire, onboard, and retain exceptional talent.
  • Create an environment where leaders are empowered, supported, challenged, and equipped to grow personally, professionally, and spiritually.
  • Provide strategic oversight for all retail operations, ensuring consistency, excellence, and alignment across every location.
  • Develop scalable operating systems, SOPs, reporting tools, and technology that improve efficiency and support future growth.
  • Oversee merchandising, inventory flow, donation processing, pricing strategy, customer experience, safety, facilities, and store presentation.
  • Partner with Marketing to execute seasonal campaigns, promotions, store resets, grand openings, and other key initiatives.
  • Champion volunteer engagement strategies that expand organizational capacity while creating meaningful volunteer experiences aligned with the organization's mission.
  • Translate organizational vision into clear operational priorities and execution plans.
  • Lead effective communication rhythms, including Operations L10 meetings and regular leadership updates.
  • Create strong cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources including volunteers and interns, Development, Facilities, and Integrated Ministry Development.
  • Communicate with clarity, humility, consistency, and accountability while building trust throughout the organization.
  • Own the financial performance of the retail division, including revenue, profitability, budgets, staffing plans, and forecasting.
  • Monitor key financial and operational metrics to identify trends, improve performance, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Establish and track KPIs related to sales, labor, inventory and sell through, customer experience, profitability, and operational productivity.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources while balancing financial sustainability with mission impact.
  • Present operational performance, opportunities, and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Develop multi-year operational strategies that support organizational growth and regional expansion.
  • Build repeatable systems that create consistency across current and future retail initiatives.
  • Evaluate performance using operational, financial, and customer data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen operational effectiveness, customer experience, profitability, and mission impact.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the COO and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Conduct regular store visits and leadership coaching across retail and warehouse locations.
  • Participate in quarterly and annual EOS planning sessions.
  • Support fundraising events, community initiatives, and major organizational events as needed.
