About The Position

ADAPT Community Network, formerly United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of NYC, provides a multitude of services to people with developmental disabilities. This role is responsible for providing direction, guidance, and oversight to assigned Residential Services programs. The Director ensures, through subordinate management, that programs are managed in accordance with Agency policies, regulations, and requirements of applicable regulatory agencies. Key responsibilities include overseeing personnel, budgeting, services to individuals, regulatory compliance, and physical plant management for the assigned programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field.
  • At least seven years of progressively more responsible managerial experience, preferably with the developmentally disabled population.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect with and engage diverse audiences.
  • Ability to achieve goals and deliverables through coordination of many individuals and activities.
  • Ability to accept and work within a wide variety of cultural, educational, and religious differences.
  • Willingness and drive to grow and develop programs and opportunities.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Exhibits professional ethics, discretion, and courtesy when dealing with others.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Demonstrates proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
  • Establishes and maintains positive and supportive rapport with staff and supported persons as well as with volunteers, aiding in retention and providing coaching as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all measures for safety and well-being are maintained at the highest level.
  • Provides overall direction, guidance, and supervision to staff at assigned residential program(s).
  • Facilitates staff meetings with program staff on a regular basis.
  • Interviews, hires, evaluates, orients, trains, provides progressive discipline, and when necessary, terminates insubordinate staff.
  • Maintains records on insubordinate staff such as level of performance, specific deficiencies, performance improvement sessions, training records, etc.
  • Facilitates individual supervisory meetings with staff to discuss program, personnel, or training needs and assesses their performance.
  • Responds to program and work-related questions, problems, and complaints from staff, families, and outside regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures that assigned sites are kept clean, neat, healthy, and safe.
  • Oversees the development of policies and procedures for assigned programs.
  • Ensures program complies with agency policies and procedures.
  • Ensures programs are meeting goals and the people supported are receiving optimum care.
  • Represents the division on agency committees and at outside meetings.
  • Develops, secures approval of, and monitors budget for residential program(s).
  • Develops long-range program plans including new programs for Residential Services.
  • Performs specific projects as assigned.
  • Oversees preparation for outside regulatory audits.
  • Makes recommendations and implements new programs and services for assigned program(s).
  • Prepares various concise written reports as assigned.
  • Conducts investigations at other agency programs, as assigned.
  • Ensures program complies with all OPWDD and other agency regulations.
  • Requires on-call responsibility 24/7.
  • Performs related duties as requested.
