About The Position

The Director of Residence Life / Assistant Dean of Students is a senior administrative leader responsible for overseeing and coordinating Eureka College’s residence life program and housing operations. This role provides leadership for residential communities, supervises staff, coordinates student conduct processes, responds to crises, and implements policies that support student success, safety, and institutional standards. As a primary administrator for residence life operations, the Assistant Dean plays a vital role in student care, risk management, and emergency response. The position requires the exercise of independent judgment regarding housing assignments, student behavior, and residential safety, while collaborating closely with campus partners to ensure compliance with College policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs required or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in residence life or student affairs
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and responding to student crises
  • Knowledge of residence life operations and student conduct processes
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in high-risk or time-sensitive situations
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information appropriately
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments
  • Evening, weekend, and on-call responsibilities required
  • Must be available to respond to campus emergencies as needed

Responsibilities

  • Administer all aspects of the Residence Life program, including residential operations, community standards, and student engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent enforcement of residence hall policies and alignment with the Eureka College Student Code of Conduct.
  • Oversee residential opening and closing procedures, break housing, and emergency housing operations.
  • Evaluate residence life practices and recommend procedural improvements to support student safety and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain and administer housing application, assignment, room change, consolidation, and cancellation processes for all College-owned residential facilities.
  • Assign students to all Eureka College-operated residential spaces in accordance with institutional policies and occupancy standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date housing records and occupancy data
  • Coordinate housing accommodations and special placement considerations in collaboration with appropriate campus offices.
  • Ensure housing information is communicated clearly and accurately to students and families.
  • Serve as a senior responder for student-related emergencies and critical incidents occurring within the residential community.
  • Participate in the College’s on-call rotation and respond to incidents requiring administrative intervention.
  • Collaborate with Campus Safety, Counseling Services, Athletics, and other campus partners during emergency and high-risk situations.
  • Provide administrative support for student conduct processes related to residential incidents, including documentation and follow-up coordination.
  • Assist in student care and support planning for students of concern.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate professional residence life staff and student staff (including Resident Assistants).
  • Develop and implement training materials and clearly defined performance expectations for residence life personnel.
  • Ensure staff compliance with College policies, procedures, and employment standards.
  • Provide ongoing supervision, feedback, and professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Promote a positive work environment that supports employee engagement, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Coordinate with Campus Safety to support residential security, emergency response planning, and incident reporting.
  • Collaborate with Physical Plant and Information Technology Services regarding residence hall access systems, safety equipment, and facility concerns.
  • Assist with institutional planning related to housing capacity, safety protocols, and student retention.
  • Serve on College committees and working groups as assigned.
  • Ensure residence life operations comply with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records related to housing assignments, incidents, and staff actions.
  • Support institutional risk management efforts through policy adherence, documentation, and staff training.
  • Participate in the review and revision of residence life policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the management of residence life operating budgets.
  • Monitor resource usage and recommend adjustments to support program needs and efficiency.
  • Identify facility or operational concerns and communicate needs to appropriate offices.
