About The Position

Sacred Heart Church is looking to fill a two-fold full-time position of Director of Religious Education and Liturgical Coordinator. The DRE oversees (designs, directs, evaluates) in the name of the pastor, a total parish catechetical program and provides leadership to assist a parish community in building a solid foundation for spirituality, Christian living, ministry, and evangelization. The Liturgical Coordinator collaborates with clergy, staff, ministry leaders, liturgical committee members, and volunteers to plan and execute parish liturgies and celebrations that will lead the faithful “to that full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations called for by the very nature of the liturgy.”

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in theology/religious education or a related theological field preferred or completion of MFP classes from the Diocese.

Responsibilities

  • Develop goals, objectives, and strategies for the total parish religion program.
  • Design, develop, and coordinate individual catechetical programs which meet the needs of all segments of the parish community.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Pastor, the other Pastoral Staff, School Personnel, and the staff of the PREP/CCD Programs.
  • Manage the total Parish Religious Education Program.
  • Communicate with participants, parents, and the entire parish to keep them informed of religious education efforts and developments.
  • Evaluate the Religious Education Programs in relation to goals, objectives, and strategies, and make necessary adjustments based on parish feedback and professional development.
  • Coordinate the designated Sacramental Programs (First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation) with the school.
  • Design and coordinate a comprehensive liturgical program with input from the pastor and the liturgical committee.
  • Plan and oversee all liturgies in the full liturgical year, including special liturgical and paraliturgical events to ensure the integrity the celebrations in accordance with the norms and guidelines of the Diocese of St. Augustine, USCCB, and Catholic Church.
  • Communicate clearly with the pastor, clergy, ministries or others responsible for liturgical celebrations to ensure a valid and licit celebration of the liturgies of the parish.
  • Coordinate with individuals (and the proper coordinators) to ensure all necessary paperwork for reception of sacraments or other liturgies are obtained and maintained efficiently and effectively with the parish.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to the parish liturgy committee and coordinate the work of the liturgy teams and committee and its various meetings.
