About The Position

Sacred Heart Church is seeking to fill a full-time, salary-exempt position of Director of Religious Education (D.R.E.) and Liturgical Coordinator. The D.R.E. is responsible for overseeing the parish catechetical program, providing leadership for spirituality, Christian living, ministry, and evangelization. The Liturgical Coordinator collaborates with clergy, staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers to plan and execute parish liturgies and celebrations, aiming for full, conscious, and active participation. The D.R.E. role involves designing, directing, and evaluating the total parish catechetical program. The Liturgical Coordinator role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to plan and execute parish liturgies and celebrations.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in theology/religious education or a related theological field preferred or completion of MFP classes from the Diocese.
  • Experience in Theology, Program Development, Catechist Development, Education, Communication and Relationships, and Administration and Management.
  • Ability to prioritize projects.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to present oneself professionally.
  • Must possess supervisory experience.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Responsibilities

  • Develop goals, objectives, and strategies for the total parish religion program.
  • Design, develop, and coordinate individual catechetical programs to meet the needs of all parish community segments.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Pastor, Pastoral Staff, School Personnel, and PREP/CCD Programs staff.
  • Manage the total Parish Religious Education Program.
  • Communicate with participants, parents, and the parish about religious education efforts.
  • Evaluate Religious Education Programs and make necessary adjustments.
  • Coordinate designated Sacramental Programs (First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) with the school.
  • Design and coordinate a comprehensive liturgical program with input from the pastor and liturgical committee.
  • Plan and oversee all liturgies throughout the liturgical year, including special events, ensuring adherence to diocesan and Catholic Church norms.
  • Communicate with the pastor, clergy, and ministries to ensure valid and licit celebration of liturgies.
  • Coordinate with individuals to ensure all necessary paperwork for sacraments or other liturgies is obtained and maintained.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to the parish liturgy committee and coordinate the work of liturgy teams.
