About The Position

The Director of Radiology is responsible for the strategic, operational, financial, quality, regulatory, and personnel management of Diagnostic Imaging and Patient Transportation Services. The Director ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, supporting physician relationships, optimizing patient throughput, and advancing departmental growth initiatives. This role collaborates closely with hospital leadership, medical staff, nursing, essential departments, and system leadership to achieve organizational goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Radiologic Sciences, or related field required.
  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology program.
  • Current certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists(ARRT)
  • Current NYS Department of Health license as a Radiologic Technologist or Nuclear Medicine
  • Minimum 5 years progressive healthcare leadership experience required.
  • Experience managing Diagnostic Imaging services required.
  • Experience with regulatory surveys, accreditation, budgeting, and capital planning required.
  • Knowledge of patient flow, throughput management, and transportation operations.
  • Leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Financial, analytical, and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Proficiency with healthcare information systems, EMR (EPIC), PACS, and performance analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative oversight of all Diagnostic Imaging and Patient Transportation operations.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals aligned with hospital and system strategic initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure efficient staffing models and operational workflows to meet patient care demands.
  • Lead departmental performance improvement initiatives utilizing data-driven decision making.
  • Serve as a liaison between hospital leadership, physicians, nursing, and essential departments.
  • Direct operations for MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-Ray, Interventional Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, and related imaging services.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including volume growth, patient wait times, report turnaround times, equipment utilization, and patient satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and physician leaders to enhance service delivery and physician engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, NYSDOH, ACR, CMS, and other regulatory standards.
  • Oversee imaging quality assurance, accreditation activities, radiation safety, and competency programs.
  • Lead capital planning, equipment replacement, and technology implementation projects.
  • Direct inpatient transport operations to ensure timely and safe movement of patients throughout the hospital.
  • Develop staffing plans and workflow processes to support patient throughput initiatives.
  • Monitor transport productivity, response times, and service metrics.
  • Collaborate with Nursing, Environmental Services, Procedural Areas, and Case Management to improve patient flow and discharge efficiency.
  • Implement process improvements that reduce delays and enhance patient experience.
  • Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor departmental productivity, overtime utilization, and supply expenditures.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost containment.
  • Prepare business plans and return-on-investment analyses for new services and capital acquisitions.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, accreditation, and hospital regulations.
  • Lead departmental readiness efforts for Joint Commission, NYSDOH, CMS, and accreditation surveys.
  • Monitor quality indicators and develop corrective action plans as needed.
  • Investigate and resolve patient safety events, grievances, and operational concerns.
  • Recruit, hire, develop, and retain high-performing staff and leaders.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and competency assessments.
  • Promote employee engagement and foster a positive work environment.
  • Ensure adherence to labor agreements, hospital policies, and employment regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for service line growth and expansion.
  • Develop business cases for new imaging technologies and patient transport initiatives.
  • Support standardization efforts.
  • Analyze market trends, referral patterns, and operational data to guide strategic decision-making.
