About The Position

The Director of Radiology is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staff, and imaging services within the Radiology Department at Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. (UNHS). This position provides leadership, operational oversight, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and staff development for all radiology and imaging services. The Director of Radiology ensures high-quality, safe, efficient, and patient-centered imaging services while maintaining compliance with Joint Commission, HRSA, MQSA, state, and federal regulations. This role collaborates closely with providers, administration, and interdisciplinary teams to support organizational goals and improve patient care outcomes.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Applied Science of Radiography or related field.
  • Current certification in Radiography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current State of Utah DOPL Radiologic Technologist license.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification (CPR/AED).
  • Current PPD screening.
  • Minimum of 3 years of imaging or radiology experience, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Mammography certification through ARRT.
  • Experience in rural healthcare, tribal health systems, or Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
  • Experience with Joint Commission, HRSA, and MQSA compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, and coordination of radiology operations, staffing, finances, and departmental resources.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of radiology and imaging services to ensure efficiency, quality, and patient satisfaction.
  • Supervise imaging department personnel, including scheduling, evaluations, competencies, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Promote a positive and collaborative work environment that supports teamwork and staff development.
  • Perform diagnostic-quality radiographic and mammography (if certified) examinations as needed.
  • Ensure imaging procedures are completed accurately, safely, and in a timely manner.
  • Assist patients with scheduling imaging appointments when necessary.
  • Monitor patient flow and scheduling to optimize department efficiency.
  • Maintain compliance with Joint Commission, HRSA, MQSA, DOPL, radiation safety, and other applicable regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure all required documentation, inspections, audits, and reports are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Maintain departmental readiness for surveys and inspections.
  • Ensure implementation and maintenance of CQI/CQA programs within the department.
  • Oversee radiation safety, infection prevention, and department-specific safety initiatives.
  • Monitor image quality standards and equipment performance.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Ensure imaging equipment is properly maintained, inspected, repaired, and functioning safely.
  • Coordinate annual physicist inspections, state inspections, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot imaging systems including: PACS, RIS, Nuance PowerShare, Volpara Aspen.
  • Coordinate vendor support and service requests as needed.
  • Complete and maintain annual staff competency assessments.
  • Identify performance gaps and implement corrective action plans and training opportunities.
  • Support continuing education, conferences, webinars, and professional development activities.
  • Provide mentorship and support for imaging students and aspiring technologists.
  • Assist with preparation and management of departmental operational and capital budgets.
  • Monitor supply inventory and coordinate ordering of imaging supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure proper disposal of expired or damaged medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain effective communication with staff, providers, administration, and external partners.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational meetings.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve workflow, patient care, and operational efficiency.
  • Promote excellent customer service and patient-centered care.
  • Address patient and staff concerns professionally and effectively.
  • Foster an environment of empathy, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as needed.
  • Perform additional duties, projects, or responsibilities assigned by UNHS leadership.
