About The Position

Exciting opportunity to work at Ocean Downs Casino Racetrack only 10 minutes from the beaches and boardwalk of Ocean City, MD! This is a seasonal role at our historic racetrack! The Director of Racing is responsible for overseeing all racing operations at Ocean Downs, ensuring efficient day-to-day racetrack operations, regulatory compliance, and exceptional guest experiences. This leadership role develops and implements racing strategies, manages departmental performance, directs staff, fosters positive community and industry relationships, and ensures compliance with all company policies, internal controls, and Maryland Racing Commission regulations. The Director of Racing works closely with senior leadership to achieve business objectives while promoting a safe, successful, and customer-focused racing environment.

Requirements

Must be able to clearly describe their goals to their staff, delegate responsibility and direct other people to achieve their goals.
Must have strong problem solving and conflict management skills.
Must be able to read and analyze a great deal of information in a short time.
Must be able to use sound judgment go make a decision.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment and effectively communicate with guests, co-workers and management.
Must be able to obtain and keep a License issued by the Maryland State Lottery Agency as required of all Gaming Establishment employees as well as by the Maryland Racing Commission that is required of all Racing Services employees.
Bachelor Degree Preferred
Ten (10) Years in Racing management; Strong knowledge of horse racing/simulcast industry.

Responsibilities

Directs and coordinates all racing operational activities for Ocean Downs developing divisional goals and objectives and monitoring operational performances
Recommends, documents and issues discipline
Responsible for assigning staff personnel when applicable
Responsible for daily racing operations and related business strategies
Ensures compliance with company Policies and Procedures, including all Internal Controls and Maryland Racing Commission Regulations
Responsible for the development and implementation of the company’s business plan
Develops strategies and directs systems of operations in accordance with the company objectives and regulatory agencies
Evaluates divisional operating performance and recommends compensation levels
Promotes campaigns fostering favorable community relations
Participates in professional organizations that promote the development of Ocean Downs
Has the responsibility to sign all racing related contracts that the President/Owner has authorized
Performs all other duties as assigned
Promotes outstanding customer relations
