The Director of Quality Engineering is responsible for leading BLOX’s quality engineering strategy across product design, manufacturing, supply chain, field execution, and warranty. The primary objective of this role is to build quality into BLOX products and processes rather than relying on inspection to identify defects after they occur. This leader will work across Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Program Management, Field Operations, and Warranty to reduce variation, eliminate recurring defects, improve product reliability, and drive permanent corrective action. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Significant experience in quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, product engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of root-cause analysis, corrective action, PFMEA, control plans, process capability, and risk-based quality planning.
  • Strong analytical, data interpretation, written, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical problem-solving leader rather than primarily an inspection or compliance leader.
  • Spend meaningful time where work occurs—in engineering, manufacturing, supplier operations, and the field.
  • Use data and engineering analysis to identify systemic issues and drive permanent resolution.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Program Management, and Field Operations.
  • Simplify processes where possible while maintaining appropriate controls.
  • Develop the technical and problem-solving capability of the Quality Engineering team and broader organization.
  • Clearly communicate quality risks, priorities, and corrective actions to employees, leadership, customers, and suppliers.
  • Promote a culture in which quality is owned by the teams designing and performing the work, not solely by the Quality department.
  • Lead investigation of significant product, manufacturing, supplier, customer, and field quality issues using structured problem-solving methods such as 5 Why, A3, 8D, Fishbone, Pareto analysis, and statistical analysis.
  • Establish disciplined root-cause and corrective-action processes that eliminate the source of problems and verify actions are effective and sustained.
  • Establish quality engineering standards, processes, priorities, performance expectations, and meaningful quality metrics.
  • Monitor key measures including first-pass yield, rework, scrap, repeat defects, supplier defects, field defects, cost of poor quality, and corrective-action effectiveness.
  • Support Lean and continuous improvement efforts focused on reducing waste, variation, rework, and unnecessary inspection.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure products are designed and manufactured for quality, reliability, and repeatability.
  • Establish critical-to-quality requirements, control plans, and appropriate inspection strategies.
  • Lead DFMEA, PFMEA, design reviews, process reviews, and other quality risk assessments.
  • Ensure quality risks are identified and manufacturing processes are capable of consistently meeting requirements before full production.
  • Support first-article review, pilot production, process validation, and production readiness.
  • Identify sources of manufacturing variation and implement process controls, error-proofing, and other improvements that reduce dependence on inspection.
  • Partner with Program Management and Field Operations to ensure quality issues identified during installation, commissioning, project completion, and warranty are captured and communicated back to Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
  • Support investigation and resolution of significant customer quality concerns.
  • Identify field and warranty issues that indicate systemic product or manufacturing problems and drive permanent corrective action.
  • Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into future product and process improvements.
  • Partner with Design and Supply Chain to establish supplier quality requirements and performance expectations.
  • Develop supplier qualification, performance monitoring, and corrective-action processes.
  • Identify critical suppliers and components requiring additional controls or technical support. Lead resolution of significant supplier quality issues and work with suppliers to improve capability, reduce defects, and reduce unnecessary incoming inspection.
