About The Position

Seeking a positive, dynamic team player who will collaborate with staff in the best interests of students. The Director of Pupil Services will be responsible for the coordination of all special education services and programs, including Section 504, in the Auburn Public School District, including state and federal special education grants, in accordance with Massachusetts and Federal Special Education Law. The Director of Pupil Services will work closely with the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Curriculum and will facilitate state and federal special education grants.

Requirements

  • Ability to coordinate, monitor, evaluate, and supervise the special education and pupil services programs for the school system.
  • Proven ability to communicate with students, staff, and the community.
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership.
  • Prior administrative and teaching ability.
  • Appropriate Massachusetts Certification.
  • Evidence of ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
  • Professional verification of five years of successful experience in special education, school psychology, or other relevant field.
  • Professional endorsements of exemplary leadership behaviors and verification of the demonstrated ability to serve as a positive role model for students and staff.
  • Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Special Education Administrator’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination of all special education services and programs, including Section 504, in the Auburn Public School District, including state and federal special education grants, in accordance with Massachusetts and Federal Special Education Law.
  • Facilitate state and federal special education grants.
  • Supervises, evaluates and coordinates the Special Education and 504 programs for the Auburn Public School District.
  • Works closely with the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Curriculum and together they assist building principals in the coordination of special education services with the regular education programming in each school.
  • Supervises special education staff, in conjunction with building administrators, on an on-going basis to include program development, teaching methodology and student assessments.
  • Evaluates existing programs in relation to stated objectives for improvement and efficiency, and to identify new program needs.
  • Coordinates special education services among Auburn Public Schools and maintains a current list and description of program options available for children in need of special education.
  • Assists the officers of the Parent Advisory Council for Special Education and meets with members on a regular basis.
  • Coordinates services for special education grants.
  • Serves as the McKinney Vento liaison and Foster Point of Contact for the Auburn Public Schools and is responsible for the coordination of educational support and services for same.
  • Supervises the maintenance of the central record-keeping system for special education records in Auburn Public Schools.
  • Ensures that the Team process is actively and effectively implemented in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Works jointly with Teams to find the best combinations of educational and other services for students in need of special education services.
  • Assists each district principal in the preparation of special education budget and statistics required for state and federal reports.
  • Assists in the recruitment of special education personnel.
  • Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and the District Leadership Team.
  • Represents the Superintendent on commissions, councils, committees, and at district functions as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
