About The Position

Under the direction of the Vice President, Department of Public Safety, the Director of Public Safety is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Tribal Members, guests, vendors, patrons, and team members across all San Manuel properties. This role collaborates with all areas under the Department of Public Safety to achieve the highest level of service and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in casino security, corporate security or security in a large, private sector organization or law enforcement is required.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid BSIS Gun, Guard Card, and DPS Training Requirements, including passing BSIS courses in Powers of Arrest and Firearms Certification.
  • Comply with all current requirements set forth by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) for Armed Security Officers within 90 days of employment.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience at the manager or executive-level is preferred.
  • Executive-level security management experience in a large corporate, gaming operator or other private sector setting is preferred.
  • Experience in the management of civilian personnel and supervisory responsibility for security functions at a heavily-trafficked public venue, such as an event center, sports facility, or transportation hub is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the daily operations ensuring each shift is sufficiently staffed to established levels to ensure the safety and security of all Tribal Members, guests, vendors and team members.
  • Ensuring the optimal and efficient use of personnel, equipment, and resources.
  • Leads and oversees all operations in and around all San Manuel properties.
  • Confirms that all support and service is conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the standards, goals and objectives of the department.
  • Leads the team to effectively execute a strategy to assess and mitigate risk, manage crises and incidents, maintain continuity of operations, and safeguard the enterprise’s physical and intangible assets, while ensuring the team effectively performs tasks such as crime prevention, access control, counter-trespassing, arresting/detaining suspects, responding to emergencies, performing as initial Incident Commander, until relieved, testifying in court proceedings, and protecting life.
  • Leads the containment or mitigation of incidents as Incident Commander, collaborating with the Crisis Management Team, Tribal Emergency Response Committee, Resort and Casino management, and related parties to formulate and execute emergency protocols; coordinate preparedness exercises, ensuring critical safety and security services are delivered professionally while protecting human capital and company assets.
  • Oversees budgeting and forecasting, department management, and ensure adherence to Federal, State, and Local standards.
  • Collaborates with Tribal, Resort, Casino and Event Center leadership and stakeholders on entertainment venue and special events planning, intelligence and security assessments, and techniques to enhance security and safety.
  • Directs patrols and observations on the grounds and in facilities to ensure compliance with guidelines, applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversees the enforcement of laws, rules and regulations to verify they are in alignment with the State, Federal and Tribal Government regulations.
  • Identify security goals, objectives and metrics consistent with the tribal strategic plan, and assure that the department’s operating procedures are in conformance with these objectives.
  • Cultivates productive relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement while overseeing the enforcement of laws, rules, and regulations to ensure alignment with State, Federal, and Tribal Government regulations.
  • Identifies security goals, objectives, and metrics consistent with the tribal strategic plan, and ensure the department’s operating procedures conform to these objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Makes hiring decisions and designs individual development plans with succession planning in mind for all key roles.
