Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277-bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg, Virginia. CSH has proudly been serving citizens of the Commonwealth since 1870. A new and modern CSH is currently under construction, scheduled for completion in August 2027. CSH maintains the only maximum-security treatment facility in the state (111 beds), along with 166 beds for individuals needing inpatient care and those in the criminal justice system. The hospital believes in holistic, person-centered treatment, recognizing that recovery is not linear. Treatment modalities include medication, evidence-based group and individual therapy, peer support, psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational training, court preparation, and substance use treatment. Central State Hospital is recruiting for a Director of Psychology and Forensic Services to provide executive leadership and administrative oversight for the hospital's psychological and forensic service lines. Serving as the hospital's chief clinical psychologist, this position is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating comprehensive psychological and forensic programs that support the delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based inpatient behavioral health services. The Director ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, Joint Commission and CMS standards, and professional practice requirements while promoting a recovery-oriented, person-centered, and trauma-informed model of care. As a member of the hospital's senior clinical leadership team, the Director provides strategic direction, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, oversees quality improvement initiatives, and leads the development of a highly skilled workforce dedicated to achieving positive patient outcomes and advancing the mission of Central State Hospital.
