About The Position

The Director of Protective Operations is responsible for leading enterprise physical security risk operations to protect teammates, clients, facilities, and assets. This role integrates emergency preparedness, event security, intelligence, investigations, and the Security and Intelligence Operations Center (SIOC) into a unified operating model that enables proactive risk identification, rapid response, and informed decision-making. The Director ensures Truist meets its Duty of Care obligations while advancing a modern, intelligence-driven security program, including the automation and integration of case management workflows from initial intake through SIOC triage, investigations, and post-incident review.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Criminal Justice or equivalent education and related training or experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience in security operations, security consulting, emergency management, law enforcement or comparable work experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in a management responsibility.
  • Five or more years' experience in dignitary protection and/or major event planning.
  • Current professional certification such as ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP), ASIS Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), or ATAP Certified Threat Manager. Industry Certifications to include one or more of the following: ATAP – Certified Threat Manager, ASIS–Professional Certified Investigator, IAEM – Certified Emergency Manager, Center for Homeland Defense and Security – Executive Leaders Program, Center for Homeland Defense and Security –Emergence Program, UNC – Gilling School - Certificate in Community Preparedness and Disaster Management.
  • Ability to manage a team, including identifying and recruiting talent, managing performance, and making decisions about resource allocation.
  • Ability to lead/influence others to adopt a new perspective and handle interpersonal issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Capable of adapting to change and making difficult decisions in a challenging environment.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills and ability to communicate complex information in a succinct manner.
  • Ability to travel when needed on short notice for up to a week.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, or Criminal Justice from an accredited university.
  • Experience in the banking or financial services field.
  • Prior federal law enforcement experience in a protective role (e.g. United States Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, State Department, Homeland Security)
  • Understanding of Duty of Care obligations per OSHA General Duty Clause [Section5(a)(1)].
  • Multiple security industry related certification (i.e. ASIS Certified Protection Professional or Physical Security Professional) or equivalent from a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency.
  • Experience designing or implementing end-to-end case management workflows, including automation of intake, triage, investigation, and post-incident review processes

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Emergency Preparedness team to deliver the enterprise emergency preparedness program to include OSHA compliant (OSHA General Duty Clause [Section5(a)(1) and OSHA 1910.38) emergency response plans, the AED program, teammate safety training, site-level tabletop exercises, and liaison with first responders.
  • Lead the Event Preparedness team to deliver enterprise coordination for significant teammate, client, and brand/marketing events to include planning for event security, event emergency management, and event communications plans.
  • Lead the Security and Intelligence Operations Center (SIOC) intelligence and triage functions to execute on an enterprise-wide physical security intelligence and response program to support life safety programs and to deliver Duty of Care obligations. The SIOC exercises the enterprise emergency communications plan.
  • Lead the Physical Security Investigations team to mitigate risk of all physical security risk types including workplace violence, threats of self-harm, intimate partner violence, bank robbery, and other persons and property crime types.
  • Lead cross functional teams of internal partners to detect, assess, investigate, and respond to all-hazard threats. Manage business partnerships with cross-functional internal departments and external security resources. Build rapport within all levels of the corporation by establishing an environment of trust and mutual respect.
  • Mentor teammates to assist with achieving their career goals.
  • Author enterprise policy, procedure, guidelines, and training.
  • Create and maintain quality assurance measures to ensure compliance with policy and procedure.
  • Develop and maintain the Protective Operations maturity and enhancement roadmap that will be used to communicate priorities, engage stakeholders and guide activities that will evolve the capability and its functions.
