About The Position

The Director of Programming is a strategic partner who advances CPB Canada's priorities by conceiving, developing, and delivering high-quality, impactful programming that strengthens the association’s presence across the bookkeeping profession. This leadership role shapes strategy, guides cross-functional work, and expands the organization's value proposition. Program development drives industry engagement and generates non-dues revenue through market-competitive education and professional development. This role also engages with the Board of Directors by providing clear, mission-aligned reporting and insights into programming performance and impact, and by participating in Board meetings to inform governance and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in marketing, communications, event management, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • 7–10 years of progressive professional experience, with 3+ years working in a leadership role or capacity.
  • Tech-savvy, with experience selecting and managing Learning Management Systems, event software, and related tools such as webinar platforms, registration systems, CRM platforms (Salesforce), and project management tools.
  • Skilled at negotiating event contracts, including A/V, conference planners, and other vendors.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to set priorities and make sound decisions.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and presentation skills, with a talent for building relationships and working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Able to research, analyze findings, and turn insights into strategy.
  • Detail-oriented and able to drive projects to completion across multiple deadlines.
  • Diplomacy and sound judgment with confidential or sensitive matters.
  • Collaborative and ready to pitch in when needed.
  • Flexible and resourceful, with integrity, credibility, and dedication to CPB Canada's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a growth-oriented strategy for CPB Canada's education and professional development offerings.
  • Manage and curate diverse programming, including conferences, workshops, webinars, and educational programming.
  • Lead staff through the logistics and execution of programs, ensuring a high-quality experience for every participant.
  • Oversee and negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, trainers, and other partners to support programming.
  • Track and analyze program effectiveness and outcomes to continuously improve programming decisions.
  • Collaborate with communications, marketing, and membership teams to ensure programs are promoted and delivered effectively.
  • Plan and execute CPB Canada's education and professional development activities.
  • Assume project and financial responsibility for the annual conference.
  • Oversee the planning and growth of National Bookkeeping Week each year.
  • Build strategies and supporting rationale for broader event planning and execution.
  • Track and analyze event effectiveness to drive continuous improvement.
  • Engage partners and sponsors to secure the resources needed to meet event objectives.
  • Provide leadership to the marketing and communications strategy, optimizing staff time for a strong return on investment.
  • Protect and enhance the brand identity and reputation of the association.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media as required.
  • Direct staff on content production, including press releases, articles, blog posts, social media content, and website copy.
  • Manage digital marketing efforts and measure resource investment against goals and performance.
  • Provide leadership and support to management and staff, including preparing reports for the Board of Directors and participating in Board meetings as required.
  • Manage and grow relationships with vendors and suppliers, ensuring services are delivered on time.
  • Offer thoughtful, sound advice and direction to the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Contribute constructively to leadership discussions on business development opportunities.
  • Manage the departmental budget, aligning it with work plans and associated reporting.
