The Director, Product Strategy – API & Excipient Bases leads product strategy for a specialized portfolio focused exclusively on active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs); Peptides and base excipients used in the pharmaceutical industry. This role drives commercialization priorities, lifecycle decisions, and cross-functional execution alignment to ensure market relevance, operational efficiency, compliance, and sustainable growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Ten (10) years of proven leadership experience in product management, portfolio strategy, or commercial leadership, preferably within pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, finished dosage forms, or compounding-related categories.
  • Deep understanding of product lifecycle management frameworks, with a track record of establishing and optimizing processes for enhanced efficiency.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical skills, and successful experience in product launches and commercial strategy execution.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building capabilities, enabling effective collaboration and motivation across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of the API, excipient, and compounding market, including customer needs, competitive landscape, and applicable quality and regulatory considerations.
  • Hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including exposure to finished dosage products, product launches, lifecycle management, and cross-functional coordination across regulatory, quality, supply chain, and commercial teams.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Teams and Excel) required

Responsibilities

  • Drive the development and execution of commercial strategies for the API, excipient, and base portfolio used in compounding, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, market needs, and revenue targets.
  • Apply technical competence and knowledge base gained from past experiences to generate new ideas that lead to innovative and proprietary products.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and market changes. Leverage this intelligence to position our products competitively in the market.
  • Translate portfolio strategy into executable plans that align commercial priorities with regulatory requirements, supply readiness, and operational constraints.
  • Define and manage the portfolio of APIs and excipient bases for compounding, overseeing the assessment of existing products and identifying opportunities for expansion, rationalization, or innovation.
  • Create category vision and product roadmaps for APIs, excipient and bases in the compounding segment; lead lifecycle management from concept and evaluation through launch, optimization, and portfolio maintenance.
  • Establish and continuously improve scalable product lifecycle and commercialization frameworks to enhance speed, accountability, and cross-functional coordination from concept through lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate closely with R&D, quality, regulatory, supply chain, marketing, and sales to optimize the API, excipient and base portfolio for compounding applications and ensure market relevance, quality, and compliance.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment across key stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of portfolio initiatives and resolution of operational bottlenecks.
  • Act as a senior point of alignment for cross-functional execution barriers, facilitating timely resolution of issues impacting product development, launch, or lifecycle decisions through stakeholder engagement and leadership escalation when required.
  • Develop and implement forecasting models to predict market demand, sales trends, and inventory needs. Collaborate with supply chain and production teams to optimize inventory levels and meet customer demand.
  • Collaborate with the sales, marketing, and training teams to develop tools, training, and resources that empower the sales force to effectively communicate product value propositions.
  • Conduct in-depth market analyses, gather insights, and leverage market trends to drive product innovation and improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of commercial initiatives. Make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Continuously evaluate product performance, pricing strategies, and market positioning to drive revenue growth and market share expansion.
  • Monitor and optimize portfolio and commercialization performance through KPI governance, stakeholder accountability, and resolution of execution barriers to support revenue and market share growth.
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
