About The Position

The University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Dental Medicine (SDM) is seeking an exceptional candidate for the full-time, clinical track faculty position of Director of Predoctoral Education within the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. This role will be based at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) and the CU School of Dental Medicine. The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of the Predoctoral Program, serving as an outstanding clinician-educator committed to clinical care, teaching, and scholarship. The position reports to the department chair, with the primary work location at CHCO. The Pediatric Dentistry clinics offer routine and complex oral treatments, with a focus on children, including those with special needs. Faculty exclusively serve children, teens, and young adults with SHCN. The Predoctoral Pediatric Dentistry Program is situated within the Pediatric Dental Center at Children's Hospital Colorado’s Health Pavilion, with additional care sites at the Health Pavilion Dental Center, North Campus Dental Center, and the Main Children’s Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Requirements

  • A DDS/DMD degree from a CODA accredited U.S. dental school or foreign equivalent.
  • Completion of a CODA approved Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program.
  • Eligibility for a Colorado dental license and board eligible in Pediatric Dentistry.
  • For Assistant Professor rank: Some successful teaching experience and/or history of providing clinical care.
  • For Associate Professor rank: Well qualified to teach and/or provide clinical care with considerable demonstrated evidence of successful teaching and demonstrated leadership and service.
  • For Professor rank: Demonstrate outstanding accomplishments in teaching, and/or providing clinical care, a record of leadership, and a meritorious leadership and service record.
  • Applicants must have a clinical, scholarly, and/or academic record consistent with each SDM Faculty appointment level in the School of Dental Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as course director for predoctoral pediatric dentistry courses.
  • Supervise dental students during their clinical pediatric dentistry rotation at the Health Pavilion Dental Center.
  • Oversee the continuity and quality of patient care in the predoctoral student clinic.
  • Perform outcomes assessments and student satisfaction surveys.
  • Provide operational leadership and management for aspects of the predoctoral program, including grading and drafting CODA self-study documents.
  • Ensure excellent educational and patient care experiences for dental trainees.
  • Develop and implement curriculum in full compliance with CODA guidelines for the predoctoral dental program.
  • Provide didactic and clinical teaching in the postdoctoral hospital-based residency program at Children's Hospital Colorado.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of program goals, objectives, and content, as well as outcomes assessment.
  • Represent the program at national meetings, such as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's Joint Academic Day and the American Dental Education Association annual conferences.
