About The Position

The Director of Plant Operations directs and oversees facility operations at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, including the maintenance of facility systems, equipment, and infrastructure. The role leads a small team, including maintenance technicians and biomed support, and combines supervision with hands-on maintenance support as needed. The director oversees preventative maintenance, regulatory compliance, inspections, and readiness for surveys, and participates in environment of care and life safety processes.

The director serves as a key stakeholder in capital projects and facility improvements, coordinating planning, vendors, contractors, construction, renovations, and equipment installations. The role also manages departmental budgets and resources, supports emergency response, maintains required documentation, and collaborates with hospital leadership and other departments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing facility systems, maintenance operations, and capital projects.
• Strong working knowledge of HVAC, boilers, electrical systems, and plumbing.
• Strong working knowledge of preventative maintenance programs.
• Strong working knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements, including CMS, state regulations, and life safety standards.
• Ability to coordinate and support construction and capital improvement projects.
• Familiarity with inspection processes and regulatory compliance workflows.
• Ability to manage vendor relationships and external contractors.

• Prior plant operations experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee plant operations, including maintenance of facility systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
• Lead and supervise a small team, including maintenance technicians and biomed support; manage scheduling and performance.
• Perform or support hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs, including boilers, electrical systems, and general systems.
• Oversee and coordinate preventative maintenance programs to support equipment reliability and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in capital projects, including planning, coordination, vendor management, and facility upgrades or equipment installations.
• Coordinate construction and renovation projects with leadership and external partners, including contractor relationships.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, coordinate inspections, and maintain survey readiness.
• Participate in environment of care and life safety processes to ensure operations align with healthcare standards.
• Monitor facility systems and identify maintenance needs, infrastructure improvements, and replacement plans.
• Manage departmental operations, including budgets, resource allocation, and cost control.
• Coordinate vendors and third-party service providers for specialized maintenance and service agreements.
• Support emergency response and facility-related incidents to enable timely resolution and minimize operational disruption.
• Maintain documentation for maintenance activities, inspections, compliance, and projects.
• Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment across departments and within the leadership team.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance and perform other assigned duties.
