About The Position

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, a leading academic healthcare system, is seeking an experienced Director of Planned Giving to lead and expand its gift planning program. This role involves partnering with hospital leadership, physicians, trustees, and development staff to secure significant philanthropic investments for patient care, research, and medical education. The Director will be a key member of the development team, responsible for strategy, donor engagement, stewardship, and program innovation, reporting to the Vice President of Development.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive fundraising experience.
Deep expertise in Planned Giving strategies, vehicles, and methodologies.
Demonstrated success in soliciting and closing significant planned and major gifts.
Strong knowledge of tax law, estate planning, and IRS regulations related to charitable giving.
Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Outstanding organizational, analytical, and strategic planning abilities.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment.
Comfort in engaging sophisticated donors, board members, attorneys, financial advisors, and Hospital senior leadership.

Nice To Haves

Advanced degree in law, business, or a related field.
Experience within an academic medical center, healthcare institution, or large nonprofit organization.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage NewYork-Presbyterian's system-wide Planned Giving program.
Responsible for the recruitment, selection and orientation of employees in assigned areas.
Manage the Planned Giving team, with a focus on reaching Development’s annual revenue goal.
Cultivate, solicit, and close a broad range of planned gifts, including bequests, charitable remainder and lead trusts, gift annuities, retirement assets, real estate, and other complex charitable vehicles.
Maintain a portfolio of Planned Giving donors and prospects; work closely w/ Planned Giving Major and Principal Gift donors.
Work closely with Manager of Trusts and Estates on administration of estate matters.
Partner with major and principal gift officers to integrate gift planning strategies into donor conversations and proposals.
Work with Development staff across multiple Hospital campuses and communicate with counterparts at related organizations.
Identify, cultivate, and steward Planned Giving prospects and donors through data analysis, relationship management, and personalized engagement.
Collaborate with trustees, campaign leadership, hospital executives, physicians, and external advisors to maximize philanthropic opportunities.
Ensure compliance with legal, tax, and industry standards.
Work closely with legal counsel, trust administrators, and financial professionals on estate, trust, and Planned Giving matters.
Track and analyze Planned Giving revenue and program performance.
Oversee administration of all Planned Giving fundraising activities including the charitable gift annuity program.
Oversee marketing and communications efforts, including websites, publications, solicitations, proposals, digital resources, videos, and donor recognition programs.
Oversee/work closely with Planned Giving consultants and vendors.
Oversee Planned Giving events.
Deliver Planned Giving trainings and presentations to internal and external audiences.
Oversee Planned Giving data and records hygiene, including creating and enforcing policies.
Oversee, with Planned Giving team, leadership of the Planned Giving Advisory Council and the Whitney-Harkness Society, the Hospital’s legacy donor recognition program.
Oversee special projects and initiatives that enhance the overall effectiveness of the Development program.
Keep current of changes in laws and best practices in Planned Giving, tax, and trust and estates.
