Director of Philanthropy
About The Position
The Director of Philanthropy positively impacts the local and regional communities and leads our development team to success. This person is responsible for strategic leadership, vision, and management of our overall philanthropic efforts to support major gifts, our annual campaign, and enhance the long-term viability of the organization in accordance with the strategic direction set by the board of directors. Represents and speaks on behalf of HIA Health at a variety of events. Works with Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Development staff to actively identify and pursue new sources of funding Cultivates and maintains relations with new and existing donors and works with them to increase support Ensures all gifts are properly documented Ensures cultivation of major donors Provides accurate development reports to Executive Director and Board Establishes long-range philanthropic strategies that reflect the organization’s strategic direction. Remains current on legal and economic issues that affect the development efforts of the organization. Ensures compliance with federal and state standards and regulations related to philanthropy. Develops/maintains internal controls and systems to ensure compliance and transparency and leads development team Participates in/assists with projects in other departments as appropriate and as assigned by Executive Director
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, PR, business, health/human services, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a leadership capacity, including team building
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort with public speaking
- Flexibility for varying hours and service-area travel
- Demonstrated ability to organize projects for and work in a team with volunteers, staff, and board

- Experience in a comprehensive development program
- Experience in a health-related organization
- Experience in major and planned gift fundraising or grant proposal writing
