About The Position

Presbyterian Homes & Services is seeking a Director of Philanthropy to join their Foundation Team. This position will office from both the Home Office in Roseville, MN, and may also office at one of our communities. The Director of Philanthropy provides strategic leadership for major gift, gift planning, and campaign fundraising activities across Presbyterian Homes & Services communities and service lines. Serving as the Foundation's senior fundraising strategist and practitioner, this role works collaboratively with Foundation leadership, community leaders, residents, families, professional advisors, and donors to identify philanthropic opportunities that advance organizational priorities. The Director leads and develops the Foundation's team of Gift Planning Officers, manages a select portfolio of leadership-level donors and prospects, and serves as the Foundation's primary resource for solicitation planning, gift planning expertise, and fundraising best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including at least 10 years in fundraising leadership.
  • Proven success personally securing major and planned gifts, including outright, deferred, blended, and complex gifts.
  • Deep expertise in charitable gift planning strategies, estate planning concepts, and complex gift vehicles.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor, and hold fundraising staff accountable for performance outcomes.
  • Strong experience managing donor portfolios, moves management systems, and fundraising performance metrics.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, presentation, and negotiation skills, with demonstrated alignment to the PHS mission and values.
  • Ability to travel regularly to PHS communities, donor meetings, and events (up to 30 days per year), including occasional evening and weekend events.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and evaluate Foundation fundraising strategy for major gift, planned gift, and campaign efforts across PHS communities and service lines.
  • Serve as a member of the Foundation leadership team, contributing to strategic planning, staffing decisions, budgets, and revenue forecasts.
  • Personally manage a portfolio of leadership-level donors and prospects, securing at least $1M in major and planned gift commitments annually.
  • Lead the Gift Planning Officer team to established metrics, including annual goals of at least $500,000 in major gift revenue and six documented planned gift commitments per year.
  • Establish and maintain moves management standards, ensuring qualified portfolios of 100–120 prospects and at least four qualification visits per month with new portfolio prospects.
  • Drive qualified pipeline growth, accurate revenue forecasting, and campaign performance against goals set with the Vice President, Foundation.
  • Serve as the Foundation's primary internal resource for charitable gift planning, supporting complex gifts involving estates, trusts, annuities, beneficiary designations, real estate, securities, and other non-cash assets.
  • Build relationships with attorneys, financial advisors, accountants, trust officers, and other professional advisors; support estate planning seminars and Legacy Society growth.
  • Provide strategic leadership for, and lead implementation of, capital campaigns, endowment campaigns, community initiatives, and special fundraising projects in partnership with executive and campus leadership.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, develop, and evaluate Gift Planning Officers and other assigned staff, fostering a collaborative, donor-centered culture.
  • Support the integration of Christian culture and heritage through communication and education systems.
