About The Position

The Marker Union Square is seeking a Director of People & Culture. This role is the primary HR leader for the property and acts as a trusted business partner to the Managing Director and hotel leadership team. The ideal candidate is an independent, business-minded HR professional who is visible throughout the hotel, enjoys building relationships, solving problems, and creating meaningful experiences for Team Members. The Marker Union Square is a distinctive boutique hotel in the heart of San Francisco, known for its vibrant atmosphere, personalized service, and strong sense of place. It is managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts and is part of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts collection.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of Human Resources Director experience within a full-service hotel environment is required.
  • Strong California legal compliance and San Francisco employment labor law knowledge is required.
  • Previous payroll experience is required.
  • Proven business-minded HR professional who is operationally engaged and financially savvy.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment.

  • UKG experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Property-wide People & Culture leadership, including employee relations, investigations, leave administration, accommodations, workers' compensation, performance management, and compliance.
  • Labor and financial management responsibilities, including oversight of labor expense, staffing levels, overtime, productivity, budgeting, labor forecasting, and partnership with Finance on overall business performance.
  • Ownership of recruitment, onboarding, payroll processing, and keeping records up to date in UKG.
  • Responsibility for training and development programs across the property ensuring strong completion rates.
  • Team Member engagement initiatives, recognition programs, celebrations, retention strategies, and action planning based on engagement survey results.
  • Oversight of Team Member access controls/key card administration, lock programming/auditing, key creation for vendors and special group clients.
  • Administration and coordination of the entire property's internal audit process, including People & Culture and payroll audit components.
