About The Position

The Director of Outdoor Activities is a key leadership and strategic position under the umbrella of Recreation and Outdoor Activities. This role is responsible for overseeing current outdoor programming while leading strategic initiatives to grow off-property excursions and future outfitting concepts as new land programming becomes available. Key initiatives include further developing off season and winter programming. Managing everything from fishing and floating to signature outfitting events like the Cutthroat Classic, the Director ensures all activities align with core Tributary Brand Dynamics: Epic Pursuits, Naturally Grounded, Elevated Experiences, and Deep Links.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current and valid Wilderness First Aid and Safety certificate or equivalent
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years floating and fishing as a river guide
  • Must have experience leading a team
  • Must have experience in the field of outfitting or recreation
  • Must have experience hosting, storytelling, and creating relaxed and memorable experiences.
  • Must have basic working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must speak English fluently and possess the ability to speak professionally to members, guests, and all departments
  • Must have valid work authorization to work in the United States for I-9 form purposes

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing all fishing, floating, and outfitting events.
  • Driving the development and expansion of outdoor activities.
  • Partnering with key stakeholders in the management, programming, and maintenance of all on-property waterways, fishing ponds, and lakes.
  • Serving as the primary point person supporting the management of the Fen area and its associated relationships.
  • Researching, filing for, and securing all regional licenses and permits required for off-property outfitting and recreation.
  • Maintaining accurate year-round documentation and reporting to ensure the Club remains in continuous good standing with regional regulatory agencies.
  • Establishing and fostering strong recreational partnerships with local vendors and community organizations.
  • Partnering closely with the Recreation Manager to coordinate a seamless, elevated member experience across all adventures.
  • Create, manage, and deliver exceptional floating and fishing programs on all available rivers in accordance with Tributary permits and outfitting partners.
  • Pilot new, exciting property programs and coordinate the outdoor activities calendar and schedule in close partnership with the Recreation Manager. Off-season and winter programming is a leading focus.
  • Lead both communal and private floating or fishing trips on the Snake River, and any other regional rivers where permitting allows.
  • Process billing for all related to Outdoor Activities.
  • Serve as the primary "eyes and ears" for the Fen area. This includes managing fish and ponds, monitoring the Fen video camera, maintaining the Teton Land Trust conservation requirements and partnership, overseeing the repair/replacement of physical supports (signage, boardwalks, fish wheels, filters), and guiding future creation and design.
  • Research, file, and manage all regional outfitting permits and licenses required to legally support and expand any and all outfitting, recreation, and outdoor activity programs.
  • Create, organize, and lead outfitting-related events and activities, such as casting clinics and the signature Cutthroat Classic, in collaboration with the Events Director.
  • Manage and coordinate member communications, including but not limited to marketing, pre-trip and post-trip communications.
  • Lead outdoor activity concept development and land design as Tributary evolves, exploring both on- and off-property opportunities for activities like shooting, camping, and more.
  • Research, acquire, and maintain all necessary outfitting and outdoor gear, supplies, and assets to ensure existing and new experiences are fully and safely equipped.
  • Foster close member relations and strive to balance the diverse needs of all key stakeholders, including Members, Guests, the Developer, Business Partners, Staff, and the local Community.
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor outdoor activities employees, as well as any outside contractors, to ensure consistent delivery of exceptional products and services.
  • Prepare, monitor, and manage the annual budget for the outdoor activities components within the Recreation and Outside Activities department in alignment with overall club financial goals.
  • Assist the Club in building, driving, and monitoring the memberships and member relations.
  • Support the Recreation elements of the department, including planning, preparing, and demonstrating activities.
