Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in a related manufacturing environment with machine shop; or 10+ plus years of process/continuous improvement experience in manufacturing, preferably aerospace
  • Proven record of hands-on experience in a high mix, high volume aerospace operation for a multimillion manufacturing company
  • Demonstrated ability in the core competencies for a senior level leader: delegation, developing direct reports, process management, innovation management, business acumen, learning on the fly, making timely/high quality decisions, and hiring staffing, strategic agility, command skills and managing vision and purpose
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and disciplines
  • Strong knowledge of/experience with manufacturing support functions such as Quality, Manufacturing Engineering and Facilities
  • Strong business acumen and customer interaction experience
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills
  • Strong leadership skills – effective in motivating and directing a team for positive results
  • Extensive background in New Product Introduction, manufacturing processes/methodologies/technologies
  • Familiarity with aerospace quality standards, systems and processes
  • Exhibits strong planning, organization, and analytical skills; capable of multitasking
  • Track-record demonstrating ability to effectively lead, train and motivate others to perform required job duties
  • Communicates across organizational levels (written and verbally) in a fair, respectful and constructive manner
  • Capable of developing and managing departmental budgets and capital projects
  • Proficient with related manufacturing computer systems/software (Microsoft Applications)
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Must have excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • This is a full-time position.
  • Hours of work may vary dependent on operational needs.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected about 5% - 15%
  • B.A. or B.S. Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have experience working in a unionized work environment and multi-state location(s)
  • This role involves access to technical data and/or hardware subject to U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In order to comply with these laws, employment is contingent upon verifying your status as a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15, or obtaining any required government authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the General Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the company manufacturing Operations to achieve the site’s business goals
  • The Director, Operations will oversee the areas of Heading, Wedgelock, Plating, Heat Treat, CNC, Maintenance, and Tooling
  • Responsible for the overall direction, management and results of departments and carries out responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws
  • Directs LEAN efforts to minimize the cost of quality including scrap, rework while meeting customer quality requirements
  • Interfaces with customers, vendors, subcontractors and ensures the organization is in compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Further develops and implements performance metrics to ensure on-time-delivery of production to customers
  • Collaborate closely with support functions including: Quality, HR, Finance, EH&S, Customer Service/Planning, Design Engineering, CI and R&D
  • Provide advice and counsel on operational issues to General Manager
  • Champion and support the current operating system including Policy Deployment, Lean Transformation, Strategic Sourcing and Continuous Improvement Philosophy with hands-on involvement and reinforcement
  • Drive and instill a culture that embraces teamwork, quality and safety in everything we do
  • Determine annual Operations Capital budget
  • Review each expenditure request for accuracy, relevance and ROI
  • Manage the majority of company direct and indirect headcount resources to include hiring, performance review and employee development to meet production output and gross margin goals
  • Translate and support global manufacturing strategies
  • Provide mentoring and training to subordinates
  • Establish appropriate Operations goals within the context of the global strategy and ensure attainment of these to support top level objectives
  • Ensure that performance metrics are posted and displayed, assessments are conducted, and visual management systems are maintained
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the skills definitions that the current Skill-Based Pay System
  • Act as one of the primary points of contact with Bargaining Unit
  • Process and resolves disputes and grievances in partnership with HR and General Manager
  • Responsible for setting the tone and maintaining a productive relationship with the Bargaining Unit
  • Establish and guide oversee SIOP process – assure effective integration between sales, supply chain and operations for effective planning and execution
  • Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills
  • Work closely with Monogram Arizona Operations to ensure alignment for production and delivery needs for Monogram
  • This role is required to be on-site 5 days at the Commerce, CA location.
