About The Position

Third Space is a virtual outpatient behavioral health practice dedicated to increasing access to mental health care for Medicaid patients. The company has experienced significant growth and is seeking a Director of Operations to scale its operational engine. This role involves managing and improving key functions such as credentialing, payer enrollment, revenue cycle, provider operations, new-state launches, compliance, systems, and vendor management. The Director of Operations will be responsible for both strategic planning and hands-on execution, working closely with the COO and founders to build and automate processes, including leveraging AI agents. Requirements

  • 3+ years of healthcare operations experience
  • Meaningful people-management responsibility
  • Direct, hands-on experience with credentialing and payer enrollment across multiple states
  • Strong familiarity with Medicaid and managed care
  • Revenue cycle fluency: ability to read an aging report, diagnose denial patterns, understand collection drivers, and hold a billing partner accountable
  • Experience building and improving operational workflows across multiple teams or systems
  • Comfortable researching and operationalizing state or payer requirements
  • Track record of writing SOPs and building processes people actually use
  • Strong spreadsheet and operational-data fluency
  • Comfortable becoming a power user of unfamiliar systems quickly
  • Experience managing vendors, outsourced teams, or offshore operations
  • Experience operating in a startup or similarly ambiguous environment
  • Clear, direct written communication
  • High attention to detail without losing sight of what matters most

Responsibilities

  • Own the operational lifecycle for clinician credentialing, enrollment, and readiness to serve patients.
  • Continuously improve systems for CAQH, PECOS, state Medicaid enrollment, MCO enrollment, roster management, revalidations, and payer administration.
  • Own the operational playbook for launching Third Space into new markets, coordinating payer enrollment, contracting, regulatory requirements, provider readiness, billing configuration, and systems setup.
  • Turn learnings from new state launches into a documented, repeatable operating system.
  • Own the operational systems supporting the clinical workforce, including onboarding/offboarding, compensation, HRIS administration, issue resolution, provider data integrity, and coordination across departments.
  • Help build the capacity model connecting patient demand with provider supply.
  • Own the operating relationship between Third Space, billing partners, payers, and internal systems, focusing on revenue cycle management (clean claims, denials, collections, A/R).
  • Build the operational infrastructure for compliance and audit readiness, including credential maintenance, exclusion screening, revalidations, attestations, and provider records.
  • Build the company's operational knowledge base by creating SOPs, standardizing work, and identifying opportunities for AI agents and automation.
  • Manage and develop the team responsible for core back-office operations, setting expectations, metrics, and accountability.
  • Own key operational vendors and outsourced partners, including performance, service levels, renewals, and cost.
  • Determine which work should be outsourced or offshore, how it should be documented, and how quality should be measured.
  • Own a single source of truth for operational health, building a weekly operating cadence and managing the operating budget.
  • Continuously improve operational output relative to cost and headcount.
