About The Position

The Director of Operations manages, supervises, and coordinates the day-to-day operations of each venue including but not limited to set-up/changeovers, custodial/housekeeping, and audio/visual operations. Responsible for developing and implementing practical systems, workflows, and accountability measures that ensure operational tasks are completed to standard, recognizing that consistent outcomes depend on process-driven oversight. This role is an exempt salaried position $125,933 – $163,713 and is bonus eligible.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible facility operations experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in senior leadership with the ability to supervise the work of others.
  • B.S. or B.A. degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Experience managing public assembly venues, convention centers, stadiums, arenas, airports, hotels, or similar facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects exceeding $500,000.
  • Experience overseeing multiple operational departments.
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control.
  • Experience with audio/visual systems.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge of event production and theater technology.
  • Capable of operating in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner that focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Working knowledge of equipment safety, facility maintenance, and housekeeping.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all daily facility operation managers, including Chief Engineer, Operations Manager Set-Up/Environmental Services, Public Safety and Security Manager
  • Create, implement, and oversee sustainability programs.
  • Develop departmental goals, operating procedures, and performance metrics.
  • Ensure the facility remains clean, safe, operational, and event-ready.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Establish preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Develop emergency preparedness and business continuity plans.
  • Support the internship program when interns rotate into the operations and engineering teams.
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of all building systems, including HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fire/Life Safety Systems, Building Automation Systems, Utilities, Manage asset lifecycle planning.
  • Update and manage a 5-year capital plan.
  • Develop long-range replacement schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Monitor facility performance and implement energy-saving initiatives.
  • Work through the operations manager to maintain world-class cleanliness standards.
  • Establish quality assurance inspections and service standards.
  • Ensure public spaces, meeting rooms, exhibit halls, back-of-house areas, and exterior grounds are maintained to exceptional standards.
  • Optimize staffing and scheduling based upon event activity.
  • Manage all room sets and tear-downs based on event requests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Provide executive oversight of the Public Safety Department.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA, fire code, emergency management, and life safety regulations.
  • Coordinate emergency response planning with local agencies.
  • Lead risk management initiatives to protect guests, employees, and facility assets.
  • Ensure drills and training are established on an annual basis.
  • Develop and implement sustainability initiatives that reduce environmental impact while lowering operating costs.
  • Oversee recycling, waste diversion, energy management, water conservation, and green purchasing programs.
  • Pursue sustainability certifications and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with clients to support environmentally responsible events.
  • Review landscaping design to ensure sustainable initiatives are being considered and adhered to
  • Develop and manage annual and 5-year capital improvement budgets.
  • Lead planning, design, and execution of capital improvement projects.
  • Contribute insight and information as needed during the renovation and expansion projects.
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, quality, and safety.
  • Minimize operational disruption during any capital project activities.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop department managers and staff.
  • Foster a culture centered on safety, accountability, customer service, and teamwork.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and succession planning.
  • Promote employee engagement and professional development.
  • Manage timely reports requested by the City on an annual basis by contract.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with outside contractors performing maintenance and renovation work.
  • Manage procurement, RFPs, contract negotiations, and vendor performance.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with safety requirements and operational standards.
  • Review project deliverables and approve completed work.
  • When able to instill sustainability requirements in RFPs to meet our goals
  • Develop and administer departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare capital funding recommendations.
  • Analyze operational performance and implement efficiencies.
  • Manage purchasing and inventory controls.
