About The Position

This position is responsible for planning projects and providing administrative and managerial support to the Area Commander. It involves supervising, monitoring, and evaluating all Area Command departments to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished and to confirm adherence to established policies and procedures. The role ensures that United Way and other grant funding documentation is prepared and funds are administered appropriately. It also serves as a liaison and technical resource to the Area Commander, external organizations, Advisory Board, Advisory Councils, and Executive Committees regarding the Area Command business and programs. The Director of Operations assumes additional responsibilities in the absence of the Area Commander.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Services, Business Administration, one of the behavioral sciences, or related field.
  • Seven years progressively responsible experience in coordinating and administering social services programs.
  • At least five years supervisory experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid State Drivers License

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the United Way and other grant funding documentation is prepared and funds are administered appropriately.
  • Serves as liaison and technical resource to the Area Commander, external organizations, Advisory Board, Advisory Councils, and Executive Committees regarding the Area Command business and programs.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities in the absence of the Area Commander.
  • Supervises Area Command staff; provides leadership and overall supervision to professional staff in the following departments: Finance, Development, Social Services, Property.
  • Instructs and trains employees in the proper methods and procedures for conducting work.
  • Monitors work for compliance with established program policies and procedures.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and makes salary and hiring/firing recommendations and decisions.
  • Assumes the ultimate decision-making role in the absence of the Area Commanders.
  • Maintains awareness of issues not requiring the Area Commanders approval to maintain efficiency on a daily basis.
  • Provides approvals as needed and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of a strategic short-range and long-range plan for capital and program needs with the Area Commander, Advisory Board and Officers and staff.
  • Serves as a planning work group coordinator.
  • Collaborates with the group to establish campaign.
