About The Position

The Director of Operations, Public Sector, provides comprehensive operational oversight for the Public Sector practice, ensuring the effective management and coordination of core business functions, including pricing, security, contracts, compliance, and risk. This role serves as a key interface with BDO USA’s Legal, Compliance, and other shared service functions, ensuring operational requirements are addressed, risks are appropriately managed, and business priorities are executed efficiently across the practice. The Director of Operations, Public Sector, also serves as a strategic partner to the Public Sector leadership team, responsible for driving operational efficiency, aligning strategic initiatives, and ensuring the successful execution of key business priorities. This role combines operational leadership with hands-on execution, collaborating across BDO USA’s national marketing, communications, training, recruiting, branding, events, and employee engagement teams to streamline processes, align messaging, and deliver impactful programs for our clients, business prospects, candidates, and internal stakeholders. With a focus on operational excellence, business growth, and employee engagement, this position plays a critical role in enhancing the practice’s brand visibility, strengthens organizational culture, and ensures alignment across all verticals to support strategic objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Marketing, required
• Fifteen (15) or more years of experience in operations, marketing, communications, or program management, preferably in a professional services or public sector environment, required
• Experience in project management, including developing and managing project timelines, prioritizing and assigning projects and tasks and assessing progress, preferred
• Proficient in the use of Windows and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, preferred
• Strong leadership, project management, and strategic planning skills
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills and ability to foster and maintain relationships with professionals at all levels within the organization
• Ability to act as a strategic partner to regional and local business line and practice leadership and management teams
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism in all matters
• Ability to work well with a team as well as independently
• Familiarity with facility security compliance
• Familiarity with contracts, compliance, pricing, and risk

Responsibilities

• Oversees day-to-day operations across the Public Sector practice, ensuring processes, priorities, and resources are aligned with leadership objectives
• Oversees pricing and proposal operations, partnering with leadership, contracts, and other stakeholders to support timely and competitive business opportunities
• Oversees security operations and requirements, ensuring alignment with applicable contractual, regulatory, and organizational requirements
• Interfaces with Legal and Compliance on contracts, regulatory requirements, risk matters, and other issues impacting the practice
• Establishes and improves operational processes and controls to increase efficiency, accountability, and consistency across the practice
• Identifies and mitigates operational risk, escalating issues appropriately and partnering with leadership and shared-service teams to drive resolution
• Serves as a central operational point of contact for Public Sector leadership, connecting business needs with the appropriate BDO USA corporate and shared-service functions
• Aligns operational efforts with business priorities, ensuring seamless execution of key initiatives
• Ensures operational efficiency by managing cross-functional initiatives and process improvements
• Develops leadership messaging and presentations for key meetings, including All Hands Meetings
• Leads internal and external communication strategies to foster engagement across the practice
• Coordinates cross-functional projects to improve efficiency and collaboration
• Partners with BDO USA’s National Marketing, Events Marketing, and Branding teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment
• Leads the planning and execution for major industry events, ensuring smooth logistics, and on-site support for local events
• Executes marketing for industry events, including branding, promotional materials, and pre/post-event marketing
• Leads the Public Sector Brand Ambassador Team, enhancing visibility and engagement for the Public Sector practice
• Develops and manage practice-wide social media content, highlighting job openings, events, thought leadership, and industry insights
• Manages podcast content strategy and promotion to enhance audience engagement
• Collaborates with BDO USA’s National Recruiting team to execute talent acquisition strategies that attract top candidates
• Oversees the Public Sector Talent Brand Strategy, to ensure consistent touchpoints with potential candidates
• Leads the planning and execution of recruiting events, ensuring smooth logistics, pre/post-event marketing, and on-site support
• Collaborates with BDO USA’s National Training team to align learning programs with business objectives and employee growth opportunities
• Serves as the Executive Sponsor of the PS Training Team, driving initiatives that enhance professional development and career progression
• Oversees the planning and implementation of internal training sessions, ensuring content is relevant, engaging and effectively delivered
• Leads the coordination and execution of training initiatives to support employee development, knowledge sharing, and skill-building across the Public Sector practice
• Evaluates training effectiveness and identify opportunities for continuous improvement to meet evolving business and employee needs
• Leads the People First Team, overseeing six sub-teams dedicated to enhancing employee well-being, morale, and professional development while promoting recognition and inclusivity within the practice
• Executes meaningful service opportunities for the Public Sector practice. Manage all logistics and engage employees in activities that support local causes and charitable organizations
• Proactively address employee needs to enhance well-being and improve morale by executing thoughtful initiatives for life events such as new family additions, hospital stays, and condolences
• Recognizes employee contributions through managing regular acknowledgements and structured programs such as Employee of the Quarter, and the COMPASS award to foster a culture of appreciation and motivation
• Facilitates onboarding and offboarding processes by assigning onboarding buddies, and career advisors, ensuring smooth employee transitions and fostering connections within the practice
• Manages and leads interactive sessions focused on professional development, team building, and open discussions to strengthen workplace collaboration and engagement
• Executes and plans events and activities that promote relationship building, inclusivity, and team bonding, reinforcing a supportive and connected workplace culture
• Leads and manages special projects as needed to support business objectives
• Collaborates with leadership to drive key initiatives and ensure successful execution
• Provides strategic guidance and support for high-priority leadership-driven initiatives
• Facilitates cross-functional coordination for complex projects and organizational goals
• Supervises and manages the tasks and project assignments of the department
