About The Position

The Director of Oncology Service Line is responsible for the direction, leadership of operational, financial, pragmatic, and personnel activities for the University Medical Center Health System (UMCHS) TLC2 Cancer Center. The Director will direct, coordinate, and influence all aspects of the operating functions, processes, and staff of the UMCHS TLC2 Cancer Center through partnership with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) while demonstrating the primary goal of efficiently and equitably providing oncology services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical outcomes, research, and financial operations. Oncology Service Line includes Medical/Hematology Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology (General Surgery, Colorectal, Breast, Gyn/Oncology), Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Multidisciplinary Clinics: Pulmonology, Palliative, Integrative Medicine. Clinical Operations: Clinics (Clinical/Non-Clinical), Accreditation, Referral Management, Patient Authorization, Support Services (Financial Navigation, Social Work, Oncology Navigation, Behavioral Health, Volunteer Services) Phlebotomy, Specialty Pharmacy, Infusion.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in health care administration, nursing, business administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 -5 years healthcare management experience; with at least two years experience in the development of service lines.
  • Candidates with Professional credentials will require current and proper licensure from applied Medical Board (example: Nursing, Respiratory, etc.)
  • Understanding of modern health care administration, principles and practices within a managed care environment and/or academic medical center
  • Knowledge, principles and technique used in negotiations as applied to service contracts, equipment purchasing
  • Strong interpersonal skills including physician relations, ability to negotiate, resolve conflicts and build teams
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Must be able to integrate market, competitor, operational and financial information to create business strategies.
  • Organizational skills, innovative approach to problem resolution, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with other organizations and entities.

Responsibilities

  • Programmatic and operational leader for UMCHS oncology services lines.
  • Works collaboratively with the Medical Director of UMCHS TLC2 Cancer Center
  • Leads and empowers staff to support the mission of UMCHS.
  • Ensure service of patients and highest standards of performance in all endeavors.
  • Participates in sectional committees and groups regarding strategy, and development of oncology service lines.
  • Participates in discussions and decisions regarding faculty and staff recruitment through assessing needs, providing solution-based proposals and presentations to appropriate UMCHS and TTUHSC leadership.
  • Ensures development and establishment of policies, procedures and objectives and ensures their adequate execution, compliance, and update.
  • Leads collaborative work with physician leadership, program leaders, clinical staff, and Performance Improvement to demonstrate measurable improvement in clinical care outcomes utilizing available benchmarks.
  • Oversees the employee engagement and evaluation process, including but not limited to performance evaluations, merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Curates and utilizes dashboards to monitor key indicators regarding clinical effectiveness, clinical efficiency, patients’ perspective, and financial performance.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of information systems that optimally reflect the clinical, research, education, and other programmatic needs of the oncology service lines.
  • Leads efforts to maintain and attain certifications and accreditations: CoC, NAPBC, Centers of Excellence: Breast, Lung, GI, NPF
  • Collaborates with resources and disciplines in review of technical billings, collections, coding, denial reports etc.
  • Collaborates to further develop patient navigation, social work, and financial navigation for patient populations.
  • This position must interact closely with medical staff and other ancillary areas to ensure a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
