About The Position

The Director of Nursing (DON) is a key member of the NANA Healthcare leadership team and is responsible for providing clinical leadership, operational oversight, and direction for nursing services within our Dunwoody, GA behavioral health program. Reporting to the Medical Director and partnering closely with program leadership, the Director of Nursing ensures the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and organizational expectations. This role is designed for a nursing leader who enjoys being both a strategic thinker and an active presence within daily operations. The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership, builds strong relationships, develops their team, and is comfortable stepping in wherever needed to support patient care and department success. This is not a fully administrative, behind-the-scenes position. Our Directors of Nursing are visible leaders who understand the importance of being connected to their staff, their patients, and the day-to-day operations of the program.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Georgia.
  • Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to adapt in a growing healthcare environment and take initiative.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Prior nursing leadership, charge nurse, supervisor, or management experience preferred.
  • Behavioral health, psychiatric, residential treatment, substance use, or similar healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with medication management and psychiatric populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the nursing department.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop nursing team members.
  • Create a positive, accountable, and collaborative nursing culture.
  • Establish effective workflows and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor staffing needs and proactively address operational challenges.
  • Promote strong communication between nursing, clinical, medical, and administrative teams.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence within the program.
  • Assist with clinical coverage needs when necessary to ensure safe and consistent patient care.
  • Conduct and oversee patient assessments and ongoing medical monitoring.
  • Observe patients for changes in clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment response.
  • Support medication management processes and provide medication education.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and treatment teams.
  • Participate in treatment planning and communicate relevant medical information.
  • Assist with emergency situations and coordinate appropriate medical referrals.
  • Maintain communication with outside medical providers and healthcare partners.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation reflecting services provided and patient care needs.
  • Ensure nursing services remain compliant with state regulations, licensing requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Maintain infection control standards and Universal Precautions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Support audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain required certifications, training, and continuing education requirements.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and sensitive organizational information.
  • Participate in leadership, nursing, and interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Partner with program leadership to address patient care needs and operational priorities.
  • Encourage teamwork, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Promote efficient use of supplies, equipment, and resources.
