About The Position

This position serves as the Director of Nursing for Decatur Correctional Center. The incumbent will work as a line supervisor to nursing staff, assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance and training to assigned staff, scheduling staff to meet day-to-day operating needs, and establishing annual goals and objectives. The incumbent will work with state and contractual staff and monitor the quality of care given to patients. The Director of Nursing will assist with monthly reports, have open communication with the Office of Health Services, assist with CQI data collection and studies, as well as audit completion.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college
  • Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible Registered Nursing experience
  • Requires current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience supervising professional staff
  • Prefers at least one (1) year working experience in a correctional setting
  • Prefers at least one (1) professional experience delivering in-service training
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience interpreting and monitoring healthcare contracts
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience making nursing schedules for a twenty-four/seven (24/7) healthcare facility
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience with problem solving patient complaints
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience maintaining a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program along with recommending and implementing improvements
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience with data collection and preparing reports
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience auditing healthcare records for accuracy and ensuring compliance with medical policies and procedures
  • Prefers Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher

Responsibilities

  • Serves as full-line supervisor
  • Provides direction, assistance and example on nursing treatments and procedures
  • Schedules special clinics and reviews lines for proper care and follow-up
  • Manages nursing staff documents
  • Serves as an auditor for the Internal Audit Team, an instructor for Employee Module Training and Grievance Officer
  • Acts as a liaison for outside specialty clinics, hospitals, as directed
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
